Sal10104
so I'm running low on ghost shrimp for my dwarf eel i tried for 1 and a half months and all i could get him to eat was these ghost shrimps because he likes to hunt at night but they are really expensive i was wondering how should i go about weening him off live food, or where can i find a live food that is easy to breed (i do have cherry shrimp that breed like crazy no idea if they can live in sw though) Link to comment
smeagol108
I used to just use silversides and krill. give him some live ones and than use a feeding stick with some krill or silverside on the end while the live ones are in the tank. while he is excited u can normally coax them into trying a dead piece off the stick. you can shake the stick and whatnot to make it look more lifelike. also, I don't know about dwarf eels, but most eels can go a good while without food. if not having luck using the above method, don't feed for a little and than try again. a hungry eel is mor elikely to try something new. smeagol108
I always had luck getting my eels to eat by trying to feed silversides while the ghost shrimp were being fed. like I said get them excited and its really just an accident when they eat it the first time. are you using a feeding stick that allows you to move the silversides/krill around etc? smeagol108
its like a wood stick yes not sure about wood ones, but there are clear plastic ones sold specifically to the fish industry for lionfish, eels and anglerfish. very flexible to easily create lifelike motions with food on the end of the stick. it is also helpful to try to get them to eat the live food off the stick by slightly spearing the shrimp etc... you been here I assume? http://www.lionfishlair.com/foodandnutrition/toolsofthetrade.shtml Link to comment
