Newstead
Have another thread on this but I don't know how to change the topic (Clown ?). Wanted as many as possible to see these pics. (Click on thumbnail to enlarge). I cannot find anything like it in my searches. Red lump over 3.5 year old female clown, now a transparent bubble over it. She is eating well. No other signs on her or her mate, but both have had occasional white stringy poops that then become normal ( seems after they eat a lot of mysis). Has anyone seen or heard of a "bubble" on a fish? Parasite, bacterial or fungus? Any ideas welcome! I would hate to lose her after this long. Link to comment
ajmckay
Hmmmm... depending on your tank conditions, recent additions, and the timeline for symptoms I think it could be 1 of 4 things (not in any particular order). 1) columnaris 2) fluke (you would see more than 1 though, may have to look at the fish from several different angles to spot them). 3) sporozoa. Unlikely, but who knows... 4) A fungus My main question would be if you've added anything recently and a specific timeline for the symptoms. Other than that I would just observe carefully for anything changing. Link to comment
Newstead
Will check into those, thanks! Nothing in that tank has changed other than adding 2 mushrooms 4 weeks ago, and I did quarantine them for 2 weeks. Been searching for a fish vet to consult :-) since I am wondering if treating her for bacterial infection would mean putting her in the QT and I don't know if the stress would be worse. Or maybe treat tank with prazipro just in case it is a parasite? Link to comment
Hammerstone
Could it have been a mechanical injury trying to heal and just looks weird? Any flashing on that area or at all? Link to comment
Newstead
Not really ... but since it is on her "nose" she does bump it occasionally on rocks, glass, etc. She seems to feel fine - it is bothering me a lot more than her! Since she has had the red bump twice in the exact spot, I am thinking it has to be bacterial or a parasite. Link to comment
ajmckay
Could it have been a mechanical injury trying to heal and just looks weird? Any flashing on that area or at all? So obvious I didn't type it out - good call! It could be part of an injury. Maybe a loose piece of something. Still watch it for signs of getting worse/better. If it gets worse then you may need to treat. For the moment though I would hold off on treating because you don't know specifically what it is. As long as it shows no sign of getting worse or if it gets better then you shouldn't need to treat. The prazi isn't a horrible idea - I've used that stuff in my reef before and everything seems to live through it. Another thought is some treated food. New Life Spectrum has some medicated pellets you can get - I'm not sure if they have one with metronidazole or not but it sounds like your fish might have an internal parasite if they have white stringy poop?
