Coral Feeding Question

A while back, I added a single mushroom frag and a small rock that had two zoanthid polyps on it. So far, that's the only coral in my tank. I want it to grow and propagate so I know it needs to eat. How can I feed it though without causing a big Nitrate spike? If I dose phytoplankton will anything else eat it besides my coral? I doubt the little bit of coral I have would be enough to absorb much out of the water column so most of the food would probably go uneaten.

Should I dose or should I just hope that my aquarium will natrually provide food for the little bit of coral that I have.

Proper light and water current will be enough for mushrooms and zooanthids, they don't require filter foods like phyto. What is your setup like?
