Lighting Options For My Tank...

So i have a JBJ 45 with a single AI Prime over it.... I know, way underpowered right now, had a leak in my 28 and haven't upgraded lighting yet... Im either thinking about:

1. Another AI Prime

2. An AI Hydra 26 HD

3. Another AI Prime and a Kessil A160W

Radion are too far out of price range... I'll post a pic of my tank cause theres too many corals to list... Mostly LPS, softies, zoas, and very very very little SPS, so it not a necessity to be able to keep SPS...

I have both a prime and Hydra 26 HDs. Loved the prime so much on a 7g tank, that I went with 2 Hydra 26 HDs on my 200g. I have similar corals as you, not much SPS.

Adding a 2nd prime would be cheaper, and you could possibly get better coverage since you can place them farther apart than the pucks on a single hydra.

ya i think getting another prime would be the best bet, do you guys think it would be a good move to get maybe a Kessil A160 and put it in the middle of both, love the shimmer effect of Kessil, and use it for shimmer and a little extra power

Have you looked at these?

Thread on RC, not as sketchy as the price would make you think :)

Not controllable though. I think another prime would be fine considering you are not into SPS.

Just curious. What is there to not like?

  • Great spectrum / emitters
  • Great design and build
  • US / Family made
  • Nano-reef member made
  • Fantastic support
  • Endless customization options
  • Great pricing

Just my $0.02 from my personal experience with Nanobox.

I haven't has much luck with the support side of things personally and my experience wasn't the most pleasant. Too many delays and the product once delivered was not to my quality standards (broken side caps, scratched paint, light did not power on etc.) Dave did his best to make it right, but sometimes being able to go to your nearest LFS/online retailer for a replacement or to have a fast and efficient response time from a larger support team wins in many cases.

Back to OP; I really am not a fan of many fixtures with the disco effect with individual LED's (very pronounced to my eyes at least) so I went with Kessil (and their Dense matrix layout). I would highly recommend them as their build quality is outstanding. It is a much simpler light (no crazy colors or anything) but does the job and does it well. The blues/uv used on the Kessil's is like nothing you have seen before!

I'd recommend checking with harrypotter he has a jbj 45, with a radion and complains about shadowing. He's thinking ati 24" t5. Travis also has a jbj45. I dont know his lighting situation

Personally I have 2 nanobox. The first one, quad, was used and dave was awesome with support, along with all the other led guys, jedimasterben, helped me upgrade to 4 channel. After tearing apart his work and rebuilding it to suit my desires, i was sold.

I ordered a tide plus m, it was sent with the incorrect power supply, but 2 days after initial delivery I got the power supply and the light is set up.

The new nanoboxs are awesome in my opinion. But if I get a chance to set up another tank I'd try t5...

But I like the experimental part of this hobby...
