^ If it makes you feel any better I talked my husb into getting a $3200 dog last winter and he looked at me like I had seven heads when I told him I was dying to get back into reefing.

Seriously though, that is a fantastic deal. $500 goes fast on reef equipment, but you'll def be able to get a good new pump and such.

$3200 dog?!  what kind of dog?  We paid $1600 for our first Havanese from a breeder 10 years ago and we thought that was expensive already!

Me: $500 gift cert!!! on my dream tank

Wife: it still requires $2k+ spent.

Sorry to hear about the job man, hope things look up soon.

haha do it!  you keep running out of space in your 30 gallon itsy bitsy tank.

A doberman! I imagine prices are higher now. Some breeds more than others. But I saved up my overtime to get one. He is 6mths old in this picture 🙂

I agree with pokerdobe, you have some lovely corals. Im sure if you have more room to frag you'll make some money XD

QUESTION- because I am having a hard time finding an answer.. Does your Reefer have a glass overflow besides the removable surface skimmer? I scratched the rear acrylic for my fusion 20 cleaning it. The Waterbox's overflow is all glass which would let me scrape the crap out of it if I wanted.

That's such a cute doberman!  My wife would love to have one....hahah.

My reefer doesn't have a removable surface skimmer.  The overflow is all black and doesn't scratch easily as far as I can tell.

She already knew that any money from frag sales just go right back into the tank 🤣🤣

I’m no longer running out of room. Since I ditched the monti’s, I have plenty of open rock space and a full frag rack.

Interesting. I was watching the video on Red Seas website and he was able to pull the "teeth/surface skimmer" off of the overflow for cleaning. I wonder if this is a new design or the video is old. HM..

Most likely new design.  Mine is the original and I know they made a lot of upgrades since then, especially in the sump.  That's why I want to upgrade now too =).

1/2in? Do you have a good macro lens to photograph that thing for us? 😝

Due to its size are you placing it in a container so it doesn't decide to take a ride in the water flow?

it's already attached to a frag plug so it won't become a $60 floatie.  haha

Picked up a ASD rainbow milli from a local.  Time to get back into SPS!  Spent 30 mins chatting with the local and his tank is amazing with the most vibrant SPS colors.  He doesn't even dose Alk or Ca!!  He does weekly water changes to replenish elements.  He has CRAZY amount of light.  2 Hydra 52s plus 4 T5 over a tank that's just a little bigger than mine.  And 4 vortechs for flow.  So I went home and bumped my light up from 75% to 80% and over the past 2 weeks, been bumping it up 1% a day.  Also lowered the light so it's closer to water surface.  Also added a jebao rw8 I had lying around for more flow.

Ric's are looking SO good!!!

I just did the same with flows.  I now have two Tunze 6040 (1000+ max gph), and IM mid-size powerhead (1500 max gph) in the display (all running roughly half the max tho), plus ~500 gph return.   Now that I have IM wavelink I might keep one Tunze in there but turn both of them up a bit.  Not really a big fan of 3 powerheads in my tiny tank.

Your SPS will love the additional flow, but your LPS and softies might not be as happy!

What are are you hoping to gain with the additional light ramp up? Everything looks really happy and colorful, if it ain’t broke....

I think flows shouldn’t be a big issue as long as none of the LPS gets direct blasts.  I don’t know if ramping up the light would amount to significant positive impact. It really comes down to the number of light sources, the “light blanket” as I’d like to call it. Btw, your tank is amazing. Would you say the diffused splash guard help with your LED-only fixture?

Thanks! The diffuser certainly helps, I can run the lights higher for longer. The light is already way overpowered for the sized tank.

I was running the kessil ap700 16 inches from water line and only at 75% peak for 2 hours.  After seeing the locals tank and the amount of light he was running, my tank definitely needed more.  I don't see much growth or color in my acros right now.  They aren't brown but also not as bright as when I got them.  I believe more light will help.  I am pretty certain I was running higher intensity before my tank crashed last year.  I lowered it when I was battling algae and dino and just never bumped it back up since lps and softies were fine.
