Hammerstone
From my research it says they like low light or shadowed conditions and even like to be horizontal or vertical. I still, can you believe it? I still haven't gotten my sun yet but now I'm like maybe I'll get both. It's for the tank that just have two clowns in it, 30 gallons. The light isn't rated for corals so I figured if they like to be in shadowed conditions they would be fine in there. Am I right? But since the sun will be my very first coral I probably shouldn't get a ric too, should I? It's very blah in there. I still need extra salt water to clean out all the algae in my coral light rated tank. Gonna take each rock out one by one and scrub. It gets a lot of natural sunlight which is making my algae worse. The tank I'm putting these corals in has no algae at all. Should I just get the sun like originally planned or if I can afford it, the ric too. They didn't seem too expensive I don't think. ? SilverBand
I don't have personal experience with ricordea florida, but have a little island of ricordea yumas and that is the primary i want in the tank. From my "noob" understanding they are somewhere between a coral and an anenome. Ricordea florida have even shaped bubbles when expanded and ricordea yumas have an alternation of large and small extension when they are expanded. If Ricodea yuma are unhappy they will detach from their rock and free float. Ricordea florida arent as finicky. From my own experience, med to low light, med to low water flow and dose with zooplankton for ricordeas in general. The sun coral will need target feeding through the week (not sure about light requirements though but I think "moderate" is safe... Target feeding the sun coral is the main complaint I have read about sun coral in multiple forums. My tank is all Ricordea Yuma. Love them, very docile, and are reproducing just fine under LED. I have only had a "baby" detach and it was happy in a small pocket under a larger Ric. They do like touching each other ( read it before and it appears true/consistant). Link to comment
Hammerstone
Thank you so much for your response!!!?I like your Ric Island! That's cool they like to touch. I would be so delighted if I had a little baby one grow. You must be doing something right!!! Link to comment

outerorbiter
Do they send out sweepers? No sweepers but give them room cause they can expand alot Link to comment
Hammerstone
They had no Ricordia, he tries to sell me something else, some other kind of mushrooms but I didnt want to have an impulse buy. I got my sun corals though. They are acclimating. I just noticed that there might be a little dead polyp in the mix. Dark brown. What do I do? By the way I got a nice bunch for 39.95. Link to comment

Hammerstone
Dont do anything with the dead polyp IMO. thank you for all your help. I just can't wait until the flowers open lol. I'm so excited, I actually have a reef tank now. Still acclimating and deciding where I want it to go. It's kn a concave piece of rock and I do have a little column that I could put it on. I was going to put it right in the middle but that's flatter. maybe that will be where the ric goes. I only want really colorful corals so I guess I'd better start saving my money lol ? SilverBand
Happy for your sun corals! I wouldnt worry too much about about the ricordea (florida or yuma)... They do expand to about 6x+ when they are happy and it doesnt take much to make them happy. No sweeper tenticles and as far as I know do not sting... Pleasant as a mushroom coral even though they are both related to coral and anenome (pseudomorph?). The sun coral however... Make sure you study feeding... They do require regular spot feeding from what I have read, moderate light, but lots of spot feeding . Link to comment

Hammerstone
Well tonight I fed the sun corals and realized something. I should have paid more attention to the healthy polyp when closed pics because when I was feeding them they all ballooned out of their cups and look happy and like balloons. I don't think that they were being fed at the LFS. When I bought them they were sunken hard cups. That's the best way to describe them. There was a clear one and a dead one, the clearish one ate bunches as did everyone but one. I even used tweezers to try to get that one to eat but to no avail. It took me about an hour. I don't mind though I'm OCD lol so every little one must eat or they are in trouble lol. In between each head looks like rock, the color of the dead one. So Iam assuming that's not good. So I am going to try to feed the hell out of them to bring them back to health. I do need a smaller baster. A syringe would be better. And better for my tank water. My clowns are so fat now they started ignoring the mysis and brine so I was trying really hard to use a net to get left overs. Thank god in this case for the bristleworms, nassarius, cowrie, and two hermits lol. I used a lot of food. But I think I saved a bunch of lives for 39.95. I am glad to do it. Hopefully they fill in and are happy all the time. Thank you for reading. I should have taken before and after pics. Thank god now the beauty is incredible. I tried again with photobucket and still had no luck. Will anyone let me email them some iPod pics so I can show you guys pictures? Maybe someone can post somewhere for me. It's okay if it's no I understand. My tanks are nothing to look at to compare to all y'all's lol, at all. My email is Mindihammerstone@ yahoo.com to show you I'm a real person. You can send me your tanks or whatever. If someone can post up some pics for me that would be cool. Wouldn't be the best photos as they are iPod photos. I just feel weird talking the talk lol???and with no photographic proof lol ??? Link to comment

HarryPotter
What is a fair price for a colorful Ricordia?I PMD you my email so I can post the pictures did you. Sounds like you're a great sun coral daddy! Not more than $35 IMO. Depends on the coloring. I'm assuming Ricordia Florida? Or Ricordia Yuma? Link to comment
Hammerstone
Ricordia Florida, and thank you so much!!! You are nice!!! By the way, Iam a coral Mommy lol ??? Link to comment
HarryPotter
Whoops! Coral mommy! Looks good. Why do you have a bubbler? Do you keep checking your salinity? With that much bubbles there must be a lot of evaporation Link to comment
Hammerstone
I just thought that the bubble curtain was pretty. I do need to do a top off. I shall do that right now. I do have a lot of evaporation. My salinity pretty much stays at 1.025. ? Link to comment
Hammerstone
At least one thing I can say is there's lots of real estate for corals. I just have the two clowns and the sun coral. I hope one day this tank looks as nice as y'alls! Not really any algae at all. My other tank is filled with algae to the point of embarrassment. Link to comment
