Correct current measurement

I currently have a powerhead (170 gph originally) that I modified (ie plugged) and is running much lower than it was originally. It barely makes current.

My question is--how can I "qualitatively" measure current to maintain a low flow system, for my mushrooms and further additions? The mushrooms aren't "waving or anything, and the current appears "low". Is there a test like hanging a string or weight and seeing how horizontal it becomes?

My system is 6g eclipse. The PH is positioned on the opposite site of the filter output pointing mainly up and toward the front.

I also have coralline algae in the LR i purchased, but have yet to see real spread after 2 months.

get a ruler, a stopwatch, and some food....time how long it takes for the food to cover a given distance, and then do the division. (Tape the ruler to the tank, get the stopwatch ready, and feed away!)

Give the coralline some time...and check your Ca and ALK levels. Anecdotally, check your Mg levels as well...
