Nathaniel Z Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I just got a small tomato clown (about half an inch) and I'm scared he's gonna get sucked into the filter. Should I worry? If so, what do I do to prevent this? He is hanging out awfully close to the filter. And my filter is pretty strong. I'm really worried! I don't want to keep the filter off for to long so if someone can answer this quickly that would be great Thx!
jbb Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Shouldn't happen - give us some info Type of filter / intake Size of tank Size of fish

Nathaniel Z Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Let me check. Hold on a secThe fish is about half an inch and the filter is a Quiet flow 55/75 aquarium power filter. My tank is a 40g I mean...he's adapting very well to the tank. I just drip acclimated him about 2 hours ago...and I put him in about 30 minutes ago. I think he likes the tank...I'm just a little skeptical...
jbb Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I would think you should be ok , you could make a guard around the intake with the cross stitch grid from the craft section at Walmart if you're really that worried about it.

Hammerstone Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I looked up tomato clowns, what a cute fish. Says they get pretty big, five inches or so and can be territorial or aggressive. I would try to get any buddies before your clown got big so they can make up some real estate lol. I was bored and thought I would check them out as I didn't know anything about them. I have two ocellaris clowns. Good luck with your little friend.
tetraodon Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 no healthy fish will ever get stuck in a filter, remember reef fish especially have to deal with powerful surging currents so they have to be strong swimmers. the only fish ive ever seen stuck to a filter or powerhead have been very sick, there is nothing to worry about.
ndrobey Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Eventually something is going to get sucked into the filter and hit the pump blades. Snails, anemones, sea hares, something. So you should get the plastic cross stitch grid from a craft store like Michael's, or the craft section of Walmart. Tie it over the intake with fishing line. Then you can relax.
outerorbiter Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I had an aptasia go in my intake once, then there were many.
dandelion Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I know I brought in aiptasia with my chaeto from my LFS. I picked them out carefully and I have not seen them anymore. I like to think I picked them all out, but it's probably more than likely that they're taken care of by my peppermint shrimp. I had an aptasia go in my intake once, then there were many.
