nick33063
If money isn't an issue, then ya id go with the radion, but for the money, $700 and then $100 to control it, and then another $75 to mount it, for $900+ id rather have 2 hydra 52 HD's all day... AI also has the best customer service IMO, they can fix your light, straight from their computer, by connecting to your light... Actually, getting 2 Hydra 52 HD is quite bit most expensive and I would think overkill for a 50 gallon tank as it would cost about $1,260. I do believe I'm going to go with 2 Hydra 26 HD for a total cost of $760, however I may consider the original Hydra 26 for AI Hydra 52 HD LED Module - $599.00ea Aqua Illumination EXT Hanging Kit - $34.99ea AquaIllumination EXT Rail - 12 Inch, Silver $29.99ea vs AI Hydra 26 HD LED Module - $349.00ea Aqua Illumination EXT Hanging Kit - $34.99ea AquaIllumination EXT Rail - 12 Inch, Silver $29.99ea Link to comment
Waynkel
The Chinese black boxes are mass produced factory units. Calling them diy makes no sense. Just as calling Dave's units diy makes no sense as its a finished product made by a company for you. And if Dave's business is successful then doesn't that mean there's money in it. Look up the history on the product, he himself called it a DIY light since day 1... Anyways, to the OP I would suggest looking into the ATI Sirius unit, its the same price as the Radion XR15 and theres even a video showing that the spread is better by Nanoriffe.de on youtube. This is the light I will be getting soon, 100%. Link to comment

I honestly wonder what generation of semileds violet they're using. Probably the C35L series what with the use of older generation XP-E emmiters instead of the newer XP-E2 or XP-G2 families. Which is honestly confusing since the efficiency is a lot better for the newer Gen chips and the cost wouldnt have been all that different. Link to comment

Its hard to get info since most of their supporters are german, but I have found that they did a cluster upgrade late 2014. I would assume the bins were also upgraded but who knows. Link to comment

DaveFason
Look up the history on the product, he himself called it a DIY light since day 1... I started out with DIY however the new lights are far from DIY. However I do sell kits, upgrade kits and a few other items that are DIY products as well. To the OP, I would choose a light that works best for you. Look at the mounting, wireless function and output that you are wanting! -Dave Link to comment

The LED clusters are the same as in the LED Powermodule, so they are now Osram LEDs with SemiLEDs violets. http://www.reef2reef.com/threads/experience-the-ati-par-monster.216087/ Link to comment
