Well I want a reef tank and have for a few years. I wanted a 29g biocube but I was thinking about all the upgrades I would have to do and stocking would be a pain cauze I can't get a job until January when I turn 16. I had a 10 gallon freshwater that I tore down with an aquanon 20 saltwater/freshwater filter. I know I need a light. Any recommendations or suggestions on lights/ filter?

Hi! I would say to just save your money until you are a ready! For the money you are going to spend to make a 10G standard tank just "OK", you can buy a Fusion 10G AIO for like $100 brand new! Also, you can buy it used for even less. The only things you would need to upgrade is the media basket(get the one from Intank) and you would need a light like the AI prime ($199 brand new and the arm mount for like $30), which you can find used also for much less than that!. The media basket can wait, but not the light. Trust me, I bought a 7.5G cube, and by the time I added all the filters and pumps to make it decent, it was way more than $100. Also, you can buy a recirculating pump like the RW-4 for like $56. Just look for a sturdy place to put your tank, and that's about it!. Good luck!

It's more about the time and money stocking. I can buy a 29g biocube and stock it but I will have little money left after I stock it how I want it. I was thinking either an AI prime nanobox mini or a current orbit marine pro for the sleek look.

Check out craigslist or a local reef club. Grab a used tank and a lot of times they're a turn key system so you'd be all set. As far as a light goes... you could grab a PAR 38 from rapid LED for $80 if you're really trying to save money.

I'm going to set it up about 4 weeks before Christmas. Get my light for christmas and money for livestock. Until Christmas I will just light bulbs to light up the tank for the cycle because you don't need lights to cycle.

Don't forget the costs of purchasing salt, and other water quality things such as a hygrometer, calcium buffer, test kit. They are small purchases, but can add up

I already have those taken into account. Probably about 100 dollars for it.
