Bingo1213
So I just had to remove my turbo twist x3 UV because the metal reflector inside was rusting terribly. I didn't notice it until I went to change the bulb and clean it a day or two ago. I have only had the unit around a year. It is absolutely stupid that a product advertised for saltwater tanks has metal that comes into contact with saltwater. Of course it'll rust! It isn't rocket science is it!?!?! I contacted Coralife and they are going to send me a new one without the reflector if I can find my receipt. They even said they were aware of the problem but were not doing anything about because they figure that GFO is just rust. Which is true but it is a very pure rust from iron oxide. This reflector as well as it's spot welds are not iron they were not sure what type of metal is even used. Who knows what this sterilizer has been leeching into my tank for the past year! On top of that they are not even warning their customers. Pretty pathetic Coralife. DO NOT BUY ONE FOR A REEF. it explains why my clam may have just randomly died.....Sorry just had to vent about it. smiz
Very interesting. Crazy that adding metal to equipment submerged in saltwater made it past the day one intern let alone into production. I had this same item in my tank for about a year and this might explain my sudden clam death. No other signs parameter wise and no other coral effected..... DAMN YOU CORPORATE GREED lol Link to comment

TJ_Burton
TJBurton had the same thing happen to him. Yes I did, and once resolved, my corals stopped looking pastel bleached all the time, opened up fully, and grew like crazy. That was 2 years ago (roughly) and I let them know of the issue at that time and really emphasized that it isn't the same as GFO. Cheap forms of stainless steel can contain all sorts of other metals including copper, cobalt, lead etc. Anyhow, I got a unit without the sleeve which solved all issues. Link to comment

It makes me thing so much less of this company and its products. It may explain why my SPS have been ok. I have always thought they should look brighter for being a vodka dosed system on zeo supplements haha. What did you do to help your tank out after you fixed the sterilizer? Just water changes? I already got an Aqua UV and pulled my turbo twist off. I don't think i can get one for free without the sleeve because i can't find my receipt. Link to comment

I ran Seachem Cuprisorb for about 2 months and it rapidly improved. Link to comment
