Langer6
How's this little tank doing? I loved watching it grow! Pretty good thanks! Hoping to pick up some more corals tomorrow. One of my crabs died and most of the mushrooms didn't make it but the snail, zoas and goniopora are all doing really well! Hope to post an update tomorrow! Link to comment
Langer6
Picked up a few frags today. Got some green star polyps that have encrusted around an egg crate. I chipped around the plug its on to make it look more natural. Also got an Anthelia that has a bunch of small heads towards the base. I know, I know GSP and pulse corals are weeds but I like them and don't care. Lastly, a one-headed green duncan. Everything is pretty closed up still except the duncan so I'll try to get a better FTS in a few days. Happy Holidays everyone! Duncan after about 2 hours... Not great FTS... Link to comment
Langer6
Here a better FTS after things have settled over the weekend. Might need to move the Anthelia but everything else is looking good. Link to comment

Langer6
Every reefer's nightmare. Aiptasia! Can't really see it in the anthelia and clearly isn't bothering it. What do you think team? Should I throw the entire thing out? Anyone have experience where these don't completely take over a tank? Link to comment
Weetabix7
They always take over. If you only have one or two, I would personally try killing them first, it's not hard to do when there's only a couple. http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/369009-apstaisia-killing-in-action/ Link to comment
ReefJar
I had some aiptasia recently, removed the rock and applied 35% H202 on them. They sizzled away in seconds. But as Weetabix7 mentions, I would get on it ASAP and rid them before they become a bigger problem. Link to comment

I'll take him out completely so he doesn't bomb me with spores as I am murdering him. The good news is...got some frags and a tiny emerald crab yesterday to eat some bubble algae that sprang up. I got some fire and ice zoas and a blue polyp monti cap. I think the guys at my LFS was new because he gave me all three for $20 when it would usually cost $40. Sweet! Weetabix7
Wow, VERY nice!!!! Well, except for the Emerald Crab bothering the Duncan, keep an eye on that. Link to comment
Langer6
I took out the anthelia with the aiptasia and have been keeping a close eye on things. So far so good. Since my GSP is growing around an egg crate it has a nice pocket that my emerald crab has now called home. Since I hadn't seen him in a few days I was starting to get worried then I noticed this during a feeding. Who needs a clown when you've got an emerald crab to host your corals!? Link to comment

Langer6
PESTS, PESTS, PESTS!! I seem to have gotten rid of the aiptasia for now but not without a few more new tenants, The first is a flatworm which shouldn't be too much of a problem. However, the 2nd pic appears to be a monti eating nudi next to the "E". He was on the front glass so I sucked him out and inspected the monti but didn't see anymore or any eggs. I'll check again closely on Monday. I'm sure there are more.Tthe 3rd pic shows a bunch of crap that came off a new green zoa frag I picked up. Probably mostly harmless but pests nonetheless. The new frag hasn't opened yet but it will look great when it does. I can't believe the growth in only a couple months. Check out the comparison of the golden eye zoas below. Besides the pests, everything else is coming along. Thanks for stopping by! BuddhaReef
Man those golden eyes are nice! Love the whole setup. Is the duncan on a plug or rooted to the bottom? Your setup has fantastic growth! Link to comment
Langer6
Man those golden eyes are nice! Love the whole setup. Is the duncan on a plug or rooted to the bottom? Your setup has fantastic growth! Thanks man! the duncan is on a very simple plug that I glued to some smaller rocks to make it stable. IMO more frags should be put on plugs like this. You can see it in the lower left of this pic. Looking at that pic now the GSP mat a grown a lot too. I started adding 4 drops weekly of Kent Essential Elements during feedings. And, I could be wrong, but I think my duncan is starting to get another head. I'll see if I can get a pic next time he's closed up. Link to comment
Langer6
I was doing some routine maintenance on the tank yesterday after I picked up a few frags. I heard a sound and didn't know what happened at first because I wasn't looking at the tank. It seemed like maybe some rocks shifted or something. Then, I heard that dreaded sound of leaking water and feared the worst. Did a rock seriously just crack the bottom of my tank?! I unplugged everything and luckily the water stopped. Turns out the leveling piece of my AC50 came off which tilted the entire filter backwards causing water to spill out the back. It's this piece here. With that crisis averted, here are some updated pics. My goni has been pretty angry for a while so any thoughts on what his deal is would be appreciated. Thanks for stopping by! Duncan maybe sprouting another head! See the little wart at the top? Here are the green zoas from a couple weeks ago Here is a blasto frag I picked up for $20 I'm super excited about it Also a pulsing xenia...don't worry I'll keep it trimmed Emerald crab messing with the zoas Duncan is doing well FTS Link to comment

Langer6
Just a small update and FTS. Goni looks a little more extended but still not near what it used to be. I'm going to pick up some rotifers next time I get to the LFS and try those out. The Duncan has 2 new heads coming in! Also the xenia got knocked over - likely by the emerald crab - but I kind of like the look of it creeping up the back of the rock. Everything else is doing well. Might have to squint to see the new heads! Link to comment

Even though he's destructive I love the emerald crab. He has a ton of personality and has been eating mysis shrimp directly from me. He's hilarious and did a great job on my bubble and hair algae. I hope my xenia and GSP growth like that! I plan on keeping them trimmed and under control but I love the grown out natural look. Link to comment
NewbReefer316
Great looking tank and the DIY skills are top notch. How is your media basket holding up? I was looking at the InTank ones but it looks like there are solid DIY options. Random question, is there a reason you're not running the heater in the AC? Link to comment
Langer6
Great looking tank and the DIY skills are top notch. How is your media basket holding up? I was looking at the InTank ones but it looks like there are solid DIY options. Random question, is there a reason you're not running the heater in the AC? Thanks for the kind words! Media basket is holding up I think. I say I think because I've actually never removed it since starting the tank so if it's broken it's at least staying in place. I just change the filter floss and chemipure and rotate the chaeto with it still in place. Those InTank ones are awesome so if it breaks I'll definitely get one of those. Originally the heater was put in the tank because I wanted to keep the top on the AC to reduce evap since the tank is at my work. Although, I just ordered the Smart ATO Micro today since I have a vacation coming up in April so maybe I will reevaluate once that is installed. I'm psyched about it. Thanks for the suggestion it would help the aesthetics for sure. In other news...I noticed this guy a few weeks ago and he was tiny but now that he's bigger (maybe the size of a pea) I'm wondering what he is. Almost looks like a tiny abalone. Any thoughts from anyone? Link to comment
