Experimenting with my aquascape and trying to keep it viable for (mostly) SPS and LPS. I am absolutely ass with the "design and aesthetics" of a tank though. I received my rocks about 3 weeks ago, but haven't started it yet because I haven't quite found out how I want to set them up yet.

The second one may be hard to place corals / have corals that eventually will breach the surface right?

if you are willing to epoxy/reef cement the rocks together you will be able to achieve a more dramatic rock configuration. look in the the new reef cement by NYOS. i helped a friend with his tank and he used it. the stuff is amazing. i will never use epoxy putty again.

I think the amount of rock is fine. The second one looks better visually IMO but obviously the flat top on the first provides lots of spots for coral
