grusus
Hi. Sorry if this dosen't fit in this forum, i am only member in reef forums as i've been planing a reef for a few years. My question have to do with kessil and radion however which i hope is topic enought. i'm kinda stuck on light choice for a 36x24x13" brackish(or fresh) goby stream tank project. Never seen any of these lights in person and wonder if anyone have tried them in high current tanks? Can i get a nice shimmer or will i get a disco tank? It's a fish only tank so much light is not that important, therefor a A160we or Radion xr15fw on lower power will suffice. Other controllable light fixture suggestions in same price range are also welcome. Regards Link to comment
jedimasterben
You will have only about 18" of light using either of those light fixtures, you'd need two of them to actually cover the whole tank. You won't have any color separation with the Kessil but you will have some with the Radion. Link to comment
ScubaJ
My tank is the same foot print... I could recommend the Nano Box Quad. I would probably recommend the 4-channel dimming as well to make sure you can tune to the color you want... I am not familiar with freshwater planted tanks but I know you want more white than blue. Great spread, price, and customized colors. http://nanoboxreef.com/ Link to comment

I have an A160we over my NC 28G and there is no color separation apparent anywhere in my tank. I would recommend Kessil all the way, but you would need at least two A160WE'S for that sized tank. Kessil is also the only LED that gives you that "shimmer" effect that looks just like the MH lights. Link to comment

This is a non planted tank and i woulden't mind some shadding. But maybe 2 is the best way to go then. My tank is the same foot print... I could recommend the Nano Box Quad. Thanks for the tip but that fixture is to exspensive. I need to rephrase my question. How do kessil look over much current, will i get a headache from a very fast moving shimmer? Maybe i could use a kessil and a T5 fluorescent or a cheap dimmable LED strip, that's easy to find and i already have Arcadia T5 holder home. Yeah I will have to figure something out. Thanks for the help guys Link to comment

Thanks for the help guys yes, no matter how you align the fixtures you simply cant avoid the "Disco" color separation in the Radion Fixture. The color separation comes from the fact you have multiple colored LEDS in a cluster with individual lenses shining straight down, A Mirror does not lie therefore it reveals the separation. Though if this is a concern I can tell you from first hand experience Radions are far "Less" noticeable than any of the other fixtures I have seen (Excluding Kessil) Besides if this is a Fish Only tank I would say take advantage of the fact you don't have to put a bunch into lighting, Radions are expensive and meant for reef tanks. Only reason i choosed either kessil or radion(who btw have a fresh water modell) is because i want the controllability, dusk to dawn effect and shimmer. From what i've seen on videos a fresh water tank with kessil is just beautiful! it can make an already nice tank much more interesting and alive which is just as importand in a FW in my opinion. But I agree radion might be overkill and 2 fixtures is uneccessary exspensive. That is wy i have decided for kessil and a dimmable singel colored LED strip to start with, then i can just add another kessil later and remove the strip. Well time will tell how this combo turns out. Regards. Link to comment
