darkdancer333
I was talking to my fish store owner and he was saying that if I pluck a polyp from a rock it can discharge a substance that can kill the whole tank. I pluck 2 last week with plastics tweezers and nothing happened, I just want to make sure before I do real damage Link to comment
Nanofreak79
I've pulled off pieces before, ripping some from the rock. This does release some bad stuff into the water, but nothing you'll have to worry about. You'd have to smash and tear open a large colony to cause any trouble. Link to comment

ReefWeeds
Do a search for palytoxin... that will answer a lot of your questions. Link to comment
Nanofreak79
Research as said. I cut mine off of rocks, no issues. Link to comment
Sancho
You have to rip a bunch of those up before they will release toxin in the water. But it is possible those are nasty. I pulled some rock out of my tank with those button pallys. I split a bunch of them in half and my SPS died over night. I also must have rubbed my eyes as I woke up pretty much blind, throbbing head ache, heavy eye lids and a chest cold. My kid was messing with the tube I use to suck water out of the tank and she had a nasty rash on her hands the next day. All zoas and palys have palytoxin but those brown button pallys are really bad. I see nothing on that rock worth keeping my advice is just take the rock out and throw it away. Link to comment

Just make sure you don't hit the palys. Link to comment

If I pluck them in a dry area the toxin should not release?? Link to comment

Caution is advised. Link to comment
