Hey guys, I've been doing some research on lighting while waiting for my 40 breeder to cycle, and realized I underestimated the t5 fixtures I had when I bought my 2 current orbit Marines. Do you think I should incorporate one of my old fixtures on there also? Would it be overkill? I'm just worried that the 2 led fixtures won't be enough. Opinions? Thanks guys

IMO and don't take this the wrong way can you just sell the orbits and start all over? Lighting is the most important thing for corals and it's better to start with something good than spending more money to patch something that will always be subpar.

Not taken the wrong way at all thats why i ask haha. I think the LEDs will be good for what i wanna do as I've read a lot of good feebback from people with them. Ive just read today that other people seem to be mixing the two together, and figured id asked if anyone has any personal experience with it. I was actually gonna sell the t5s (i have 3 Oddyysea fixtures that hold 2 bulbs each for 24 watt bulbs), until i realized they could successfully grow pretty much anything. Now I'm considering doing the opposite, just getting better bulbs.

Orbit marines are basically for low light corals. If you decide you want to do SPS it's not going to happen. That's why I say start out with a fixture that will grow whatever from the start and dial it down vs spending money later to add on.

Also Odyssea is not the greatest as it comes with crap ballasts and very meh reflectors. Of course you could run 6 bulbs but just know that it's not going to match an ATI sunpower in output at all.
