badwhiskey
I just pulled my skimmer off my 29g to clean it...its been a few days and everything seems good...anyone running this low tech type of tank? I hear of someone running just filters for flow and live rock?? Link to comment
Spiderguardnano
if you are diligent on water changes you should be fine but i always liked using skimmers i used just a aqua clear and live rock on my nano 7g but i did do like 50% water change every week Link to comment
KyleRay31
Just bought a cheap second mp10 I was gonna use for my cube but then I found out petco is having the dollar per gallon sale. Bought a 20L in hopes to run sumpless/skimmerless. Following along. Link to comment
reef.led
Absolutely possible as mentioned above. Diligent water changes and attention to detail. Julian Sprung doesn't use a skimmer on his personal tank and it looks great. Link to comment
badwhiskey
Ya...julian is a master and yes his tanks rock The only thing I noticed so far when I removed my skimmer (octo bh 100) one of my Kenya trees shrivled up...but its looking better after heavy water change Link to comment
gulfsurfer101
I'm currently running a temporary ten gallon using only an aquaclear20 and jeabo wp10. I'm using nsw and currently swap out 2-5 gallons every two to three days. I know it's only a temporary set but I could see this tank going on indefinitely under these circumstances. Link to comment
badwhiskey
I know your tank well nano s. But didn't know it just had powerheads only! Is it still running? Link to comment
Alexraptor
Absolutely. And depending on setup, tank size and bio-load, dilligent water changes may not even be needed. Link to comment
Pinner Reef
My tank was doing just fine without filters right up till the Dino bloom. Link to comment
amphipod
Hecks yeah, in some scenarios you might not even need the power head. But I don't recommend not using a power head Link to comment
badwhiskey
I will just run airstones for movement..like cheng Link to comment
bpb
I am currently running my 90 gallon mixed tank skimmerless as well as no chemical filtration. Just tons of rock, flow and a lot of macro in the sump. Link to comment
jaynkeel
In the past I have done several simple tanks that thrived. Skimmer died in my 65 cube and went almost a year without, not one problem. Replace skimmer and nothing but headaches recently. Too many variables but sometimes simple is better depending on bioload and husbandry (hate that term). Link to comment
ndrobey
Filtration has to meet the bioload. With low bioload, you can have very little filtration. Link to comment
