Visionist
Im using an ocean revive arctic-t247 light(http://www.oceanrevivellc.com/goods.php?id=19) on my 20g long about about 12-14" from the top of the tank with the actinic's set at 20% and full spectrum at 15%(still very bright). I'm just wondering if this light is too much for my tank and if I'm running the lights at a decent amount for the tank. I was originally planning on upgrading to a 40g when I bought the light but I haven't got around to it and don't know if I will. I've been battling with GHA for months now and its pretty bad in my tank but all of my corals are doing fine still...seemed to start happening when I got the light but could be just coincidence with the aging of my tank. paulrw
i would say no it's not overkill. how long are they on for? i would look else were for the gha problem. do some water testing, how are your nitrates and phosphate levels? Link to comment

Nitrate and phosphate are both very low to 0 but that is mostly from the fast GHA growth I would say. I am picking up a GFO reactor this week hopefully to try to pull some of the phosphates out, I am leaning towards phosphate buildup coming from the sand or rock. Light is on for 5 hours. paulrw
wow 5 hours definitely not overkill. what do you do for water changes? hows the flow in the tank? Link to comment
wrn1217
Very Rarely will you ever be able to overkill a light on a saltwater tank. 5 Hours is defiantly not overkill most stores run their lights for 8 to 10 hours. Saltwater Lights are MUCH brighter than freshwater set ups Link to comment
Visionist
I had the lights dialed back to 5 to try to help the algae. I change about 15-20% every 2 weeks. I have 2 koralia 500gph pumps as flow. Link to comment
Cencalfishguy56
Up water changes to every week and scrub rocks outside tank, that should help a lot Link to comment

B16acrx1988
Try a scrub out of the tank and the gfo reactor should knock it out. Link to comment
Visionist
Extent of the issue, most of this larger stuff siphons out quite easily but grows back in no time. As you can see the corals are dong fine even with the algae issue. It's all over the back and side walls. Link to comment

Cencalfishguy56
Peroxide dip those rocks run a phosphate remover lol but seriously get that algae off those zoas! I had GHA smother my zoas and they ended up dying Same kind of zoas too the pink rings Link to comment

paulrw
are you dosing something for coralline algae growth? Link to comment
Visionist
are you dosing something for coralline algae growth? Nope, not dosing anything atm. Salt is reef crystals. Link to comment
Cencalfishguy56
You clearly have a phosphate issue as soon as I cleaned my rock and ran phosguard in my HOB I never once saw GHA again except for the small patch in the back of my rocks out of sight just as a nutrient export I guess lol Link to comment

jmp21677
Agree! There is phosphates feeding that Nasty stuff! I did everything! Acid dipped my rock, gfo, etc. You name it I tried it! The I tested my ro water and it seems that I had a small leak in a fitting that must have been reducing pressure just enough. I will say that brightwells p04 export works great. No reactor! Just throw it in a media bag! Link to comment

I picked up the GFO reactor today, just have to get the maxijet to run it. Link to comment
