Is my light overkill?

Im using an ocean revive arctic-t247 light(http://www.oceanrevivellc.com/goods.php?id=19) on my 20g long about about 12-14" from the top of the tank with the actinic's set at 20% and full spectrum at 15%(still very bright). I'm just wondering if this light is too much for my tank and if I'm running the lights at a decent amount for the tank.

I was originally planning on upgrading to a 40g when I bought the light but I haven't got around to it and don't know if I will.

I've been battling with GHA for months now and its pretty bad in my tank but all of my corals are doing fine still...seemed to start happening when I got the light but could be just coincidence with the aging of my tank.

i would say no it's not overkill. how long are they on for? i would look else were for the gha problem. do some water testing, how are your nitrates and phosphate levels?

Nitrate and phosphate are both very low to 0 but that is mostly from the fast GHA growth I would say. I am picking up a GFO reactor this week hopefully to try to pull some of the phosphates out, I am leaning towards phosphate buildup coming from the sand or rock. Light is on for 5 hours.

Very Rarely will you ever be able to overkill a light on a saltwater tank. 5 Hours is defiantly not overkill most stores run their lights for 8 to 10 hours. Saltwater Lights are MUCH brighter than freshwater set ups

I had the lights dialed back to 5 to try to help the algae. I change about 15-20% every 2 weeks. I have 2 koralia 500gph pumps as flow.

Actually, running LEDs you can very easily cook everything in your tank.

Extent of the issue, most of this larger stuff siphons out quite easily but grows back in no time. As you can see the corals are dong fine even with the algae issue. It's all over the back and side walls.

Peroxide dip those rocks run a phosphate remover lol but seriously get that algae off those zoas! I had GHA smother my zoas and they ended up dying

Same kind of zoas too the pink rings

The zoas actually don't seem to mind, I have two frags of the same kind and this one is just a little pissed because I moved it

Just measured trates(<5ppm), ammonia(0ppm), ph(8.1)

Well just make sure mine did fine for a while then they just went down hill and they had GHA all between each polyp

Eventually, they will be smothered out. As mentioned before, WC, GFO, Peroxide.

You clearly have a phosphate issue as soon as I cleaned my rock and ran phosguard in my HOB I never once saw GHA again except for the small patch in the back of my rocks out of sight just as a nutrient export I guess lol

Agree! There is phosphates feeding that Nasty stuff! I did everything! Acid dipped my rock, gfo, etc. You name it I tried it! The I tested my ro water and it seems that I had a small leak in a fitting that must have been reducing pressure just enough. I will say that brightwells p04 export works great. No reactor! Just throw it in a media bag!

the water coming from rodi is 0tds(I test it every time I make water as the adjustable flow regulator is a bit finicky). I picked up the GFO reactor today, just have to get the maxijet to run it.
