A relief indeed! I must say that despite the sitter's pictures, I was still really worried that I might come home to an unhealthy, unhappy disaster. Clearly that wasn't the case! Now if only the big toadstool would go upright again..... 1 Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
The big toadstool is decaying! There is a big hole in one of the tops, and nasty stuff came out when I basted it. I guess I'll be fragging it this afternoon 2 Quote Link to comment
ReefWeeds
Once it starts doing that, it goes down hill quick and releases a bunch of toxins into your tank. Make sure you try not to let the decaying matter flow around the tank when you're taking it out. 2 Quote Link to comment

Good to know, thanks Thankfully it's right at the top so I barely have to move it to get it out of the water. I'll change the carbon, also. 1 Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
Well I just fragged off the really bad spot. Pretty much I cut off that whole top, and just cut around the part of the edge that was unaffected. That has been rubber banded to a rock. I'm kind of concerned. The other top had a little pinhole in it, and a tiny bit of discoloration around that. I'm going to keep a very close eye on it to see if that ends up decaying like the other one. And then I decided to prod my pink branchy leather and some brown stuff squirted out from an itty bitty pin hole near the base. I'll also be keeping a close eye on that. And the green branchy leather had one discolored tip that I cut off, just to be safe. I really hope my leathers are ok. At least the Japanese leather is looking better. And the blastos seem to be getting better, even a couple of the ones that were pretty much a skeleton. 1 Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
I've been procrastinating. I took some of these photos on Monday and am just now getting them up! Do you know what's the worst? Fishy dreams where everything is so great, and then you wake up and realize it's not real. Last night I dreamt that all of my blastos had fully recovered, and the ones that came back from skeleton were the most insane colors! And the night before, I dreamt that I'd finally found an excellent local coral supplier who sold every kind of coral imaginable (some don't even exist!) at really cheap prices. I was gonna buy a rainbow of rics......... I was allowed to just reach in the tank, pick up the coral, and carry it to the till! 4 Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
I want this so bad! Fingers crossed that whenever it comes time to place a coral order they'll have frags! I dreamed I stashed a couple corals in my hamsters' tank to let them grow a bit (like, I just planted them in the bedding, no biggie). Then they were growing so well that I wondered if I should just leave them in there, but I was worried Peanut Butter and Anchovy might decide to start eating them. I also dreamed my Caulerpa went sexual and turned Jeff a different colour. Your fish dreams are better than mine. 3 Quote Link to comment

fishfreak0114
I forgot to mention (I think) that the replacement pump came from Coralife earlier this week. I'm trying to feed the blastos as much frozen food as I can. Some frozen rotifers as well. I think all of them have a decent shot at recovery except for the neutrino. Even the radiant red, which I thought had zero tissue, has a little more every day, and I see at least one mouth. The only problem is that I'm trying to do as few water changes as possible until I get an RO/DI. Just small ones to keep alk up. I still haven't settled on a unit, but I'm leaning towards spectrapure. I've heard good things about it, and even after converting the price to CAD it seems to be one of the cheaper options. 1 Quote Link to comment

teenyreef
Wow, things are looking great now! I have a Spectrapure RODI. I got the RODI90 at a discounted price as a "refurb". It looked brand new when I got it. $112 USD: http://spectrapure.com/Refurbished-90-GPD-RODI-System I upgraded mine with TDS meters I got cheap on Amazon, and later bought a second membrane from BRS (their "BRS 150 GPD Water Saver Upgrade Kit", which roughly doubles the output rate and halves the waste water. I also got the BoosterBuddie from Amazon to boost the water pressure. This makes it run a lot faster, stops pumping automatically when the output is closed off (like when using a float valve in the fill bucket), and adds a membrane flush capability. But all that's just stuff I added bit by bit. The only thing you really should add is a TDS meter so you know when to change the filters. 1 Quote Link to comment
