fishfreak0114
I'm very impressed with coralife's service. My mom emailed them about what happened, and despite a one year warranty they're sending me a new pump! I think I'll use it for mixing water. 4 Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
I just picked up 4l of different water because it's cheaper. It's RO that came from a machine at the store. Is it safe to use until I get an RO/DI unit? I assume it is better than the tap water (said it went through carbon, UV, and mechanical). Would it be filtered tap water coming out of the machine, because I'm pretty sure the only thing causing problems with the tap water is high alk. I tested the RO and Ca is about 20, and alk is less than 3.5. Probably a fair bit less than 3.5, I forgot that it would be testing low and added a decent amount of reagent right off the bat which made it turn pink. I'd like to know as soon as possible because if it's alright I need to go to the store and get more, and if not I need to go buy distilled. Things are looking better today for sure. Most things, anyway. Gonna go take some pics. 1 Quote Link to comment
vlangel
O my fishfreak, I missed all the stuff on the corroded cord and the electrocution. I am so glad that you are ok. It appears like your quick action have most likely saved a lot of your livestock. 1 Quote Link to comment

fishfreak0114
I think I'm just going to get it for today. if I isn't suitable for continued use I will switch back to distilled The tank still smells gross, but less so. Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
Well that water turned out to not be a great deal, so tonight's big water change will be 4l of RO and 28l of distilled I'm going to be using IO, and maybe a little RSCP because the IO mixes a bit lower than my tank. Time to get going! And I caved and bought a gorgeous crowntail betta today! I'm horrible. I figured out how to shuffle a couple fish around to free up the 3g for this guy I'm an addict. 2 Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
Water change complete! I just realized that this is the biggest water change I've ever done on the tank! Here's hoping my fresh salt water was ok. I don't see why it wouldn't be. I think I only have about 20g of actual water in my tank, because it was half empty after two 5g buckets. I also added a little more carbon because I figure too much is better than not enough in this situation, and changed the floss. I won't be getting today's photos up until tomorrow. So for today: Bad: The finger leather looked more shrunken, the Japanese leather and green polyp toadstool haven't changed. The colt coral was more shrunken. Good: More zoas opened. The long polyp toadstool had more polyps out. The big toadstool's stalks are beginning to fatten up, and I suspect within a day or two it'll be upright. It also had more polyps out. The blastos look roughly the same. The fish and remaining inverts are fine, although one nassarious may have died. That or I found an old shell (leaning towards that). I continue to hear Garth snapping away So as you can see, the good far outweighs the bad at this point. Tomorrow morning we are leaving to visit my Grandpa for his birthday. We'll be back either Saturday night or Sunday. Our usual tank sitter is back, which makes me feel a lot better about going. She's an animal lover, and she's cared for everything at least once. For the reef, she will be feeding flake one day (pre-portioned), topping up and checking the temperature daily, and dosing prime every day. I've also asked her to send me a pic. If things look like they're going down hill I'll try to convince my mom to come home Saturday. 2 Quote Link to comment

Have fun visiting your grandpa's! 1 Quote Link to comment

Perhaps it would. If they still look bad when I return home I'll do a dip And thanks, it should be fun. My Aunt, Uncle, and two little cousins are here as well. Right now the three of us are watching Moana. Quote Link to comment

fishfreak0114
Time for yesterday's pics. There aren't a whole lot. I took more today as I noticed new improvements in several corals. The electricity seemed to be a setback for it (understandably) and I wasn't sure it would be able to bounce back because it was already in rough shape. As a Dad, and therefore an official lover of Dad Jokes, I absolutely love the lyrics Wow! Things look so much better compared to before! You will be really glad you took all these pictures later. When I look back through old pictures, I sometimes spend the most time looking at the disaster pictures. It makes me feel really good to compare before and after, and also helps me keep perspective when the tank is going through a down spell. 3 Quote Link to comment

Although I'd rather forget this whole ordeal, it's been very helpful to keep track of what is improving and what isn't with all the photos. And the past couple mornings when I've looked in the tank and thought "wow things look so bad" I just check out a pic from Sunday night. 2 Quote Link to comment
