fishfreak0114
After some more reading, I'm also considering Seachem Reef Builder. Is that better than b ionic? Or all alk supplements about the same? The reason I'm looking at that over b ionic is because my calcium doesn't really drop between water changes, so if I'm dosing calcium it might get too high? I wasn't going to buy them as there wasn't anything else that interested me in last Friday's update. (Also I might be going to an awesome fish store in the next few weeks that has amazing prices.) I've been pleased with the corals and service from Canada Corals but they are pretty expensive compared to LFS within a few hours of me. 1 Quote Link to comment

Well, you only dose for what you need. I've never used Reef Builder so I can't comment on it. I have used B Ionic and liked it and found it both effective and easy to use, so it's what I return to. 1 Quote Link to comment

Canada Corals is expensive, but I couldn't pass up the blastos. They have such a good selection! I like fragbox better pricewise though. 2 hours ago, Weetabix7 said: Well, you only dose for what you need. I've never used Reef Builder so I can't comment on it. I don't think I need to dose calcium, so that makes me lean towards Reef Builder because why spend money on calcium stuff that I don't need with the 2-part? Quote Link to comment
fishfreak0114
I keep telling myself that I'll let the plates that are still attached to the main skeleton grow out more. And then I go and pop more off. I've removed all the ones with skeletons larger than a little nub, so it'll be a while until I can remove more. I was right about the broken ones doing alright, they're puffing up like normal. Including the damaged ones (which I'm hoping will regrow to be somewhat round) I have 18 on plugs. I'm almost out of frag plugs! I'd better order some. I also need more glue and epoxy. I think my corals will be arriving not Wednesday, but it's not 100% confirmed yet. I'm debating adding one more coral to my order. This budgie favia https://www.canadacorals.com/collections/lps-corals/products/budgie-favia-frag Can anyone tell from the pic if it has a thick skeleton or not? Because my favia with a thick skeleton has grown 0% since I bought it 1.5yrs ago, while the watermelon favia, which pretty much just encrusts, has grown 300-400% in the last 1.5yrs. I really like the color of the budgie favia, but if it won't grow, I doubt I'll get it. If no one can tell what the skeleton is like, I'll probably add it anyways seeing as it's only $10. I can always rehome it. I razored the glass, so if things open up nice today or tomorrow, I'll try to take a new FTS 2 Quote Link to comment

Yay more coral!!! And on a happy note, grade 10 is almost over! There's only 2 days left (and they don't count for marks). The only grade I know for sure is English (98%), but last I checked I had 99% in socials, 98% in French, and 100% in physics! I had one final assignment in physics to be marked, but the teacher said it was really good. If I got 100% in physics I would be so happy, because at the beginning of the semester that class was beating me down and I almost switched out of it 3 Quote Link to comment

fishfreak0114
The green Duncan has been closed a lot lately, and I finally figured out why. A vermetid had popped up only an inch away. I wouldn't have noticed it if its strings weren't out. Needless to say, it has been obliterated. I'm about to do a water change, so I tested parameters. Calcium is 425, and alk is 5.1. It seems that alk is dropping roughly 1dkh a week. I've decided to order Seachem Reef builder. If I remember, it'll be this week, maybe even today. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thanks I never manage to get a pic with both clowns in it, so I was pretty happy. I got Zeus, the blue CBS, probably a month ago now. He was extremely shy at first, and all I could see was his arms hanging down from a cave. As time goes on, he's gotten braver. He sometimes goes all the way out onto the lobo like in the pic. He doesn't venture more than 6" from his cave though. I haven't noticed any aggression towards anything. He doesn't steal food from corals (he won't come out far enough), and him and Polka-dot (the fire shrimp) sometimes hang out in the same cave. I'd definitely recommend one, as long as you don't mind a little shyness. I bet in your 5.5 it wouldn't be too hard to find one. My method of choice for vermetids is crushing with tweezers. I'm going to go hunting again in a few minutes... 1 Quote Link to comment

fishfreak0114
So starting at around 4pm today, just after I had turned off the lights/flow for a water change, my lone RFA spawned. It lasted for around an hour. Too bad I only have the one. I'm curious to know if the sperm can be seen under a microscope, and since I'm allowed to use the school's microscopes, I put some in a Tupperware and I'll be going in tomorrow at lunch to take a look. 3 Quote Link to comment

fishfreak0114
Unfortunately, the radiant red blasto doesn't meet Canada Corals criteria. I'm switching it for an ultima blasto (pic coming soon) which is $10 more. Also, my om has agreed to go half and half for the Duncan! Will post a pic of that soon. 1 Quote Link to comment

fishfreak0114
I got the coral yesterday, and it has all been dipped and put in the tank. I had a hell of a time trying to find sand bed space for them, one is just sitting on the GSP island. I was very impressed with Canada Corals. When the radiant red Blasto wasn't good enough quality, I asked for a refund and then bought a different Blasto. The refund had gone through within 10 minutes. The packing was good, and they used little foam things to float the coral upsidedown. I got a freebie! A very nice looking Favia. The Duncan was also two heads, not one. And guess what?! They gave me the radiant red Blasto anyways! It's not in great shape, but I did an iodine dip and I'll make sure to feed it lots 1 Quote Link to comment
