I think my plan B is an anchor hocking jar.  Or I have the odd vase around the house I could use.  I think I'm going to check the thrift store for a coffee maker as plan A.  I think I could deal with the small water volume, and I figure I could actually fit a heater in.

I approve of Anchor Hocking jar.  Not that I'm biased or anything.

Time for a couple quick updates!

The lights are still out, and soon it will have been 4 weeks! (If I'm remembering correctly)

Frank looked much better after the dip/fragging

The cloves mostly jumped ship, but I found the missing piece and reattached it.  Open and happy

Here's the piece I found on the sand

At last, I've got an RO/DI!

I also got some more epoxy, because I seem to go through the stuff pretty quick

The RO/DI was packaged very well

The white spot anemone shrimp evicted Jacob from the RFA!  It used to be big enough to share, but it has shrunk considerably with the lack of light :(  I'm quite frustrated with the whole light thing.  Why won't the power supply just get here already?!  I have no idea where it's at.

Nice! Spectrapure is the way to go.

I'm so excited to have access to water 24/7!  Now I can do water changes everyday if I feel like it (though I can't see that happening haha).

It's the ultimate luxury to not have to go to a LFS just for water. Honestly I'd say it's almost a bigger deal than an ATO in terms of convenience.

I used tap water for the first 2.5 years, but something changed not long ago.  I have no LFS near me, so every water change was costing $8 in distilled water!  This is gonna be nice.

I just recently picked up a used spectrapure, haven't gotten to set it up yet though.

I haven't got mine set up yet either, hopefully this weekend. I'll have to take a break from horror movies to do some fish stuff!

Some crappy news. The RFA is MIA. It hasn't dealt well with lights out and has shrunk pretty small. It went for a walk (I assume, since it's not where it used to be) and I can't find it! :tears:. I want my brown RFA back!

So, no big surprise but I didn't get the RO/DI set up this weekend.  Aside from carving pumpkins and eating candy while watching numerous horror movies, I didn't accomplish a whole lot.

The anemone shrimp has taken a liking to the toadstool lately

26276618959_8b69acabce_k.jpgPA271382 by orb1915, on Flickr

And I found my RFA!  It popped up not too far from where it started.

I haven't cleaned the glass since the lights went out so it needs a REALLY good scraping.  I picked up two of these snails just over a week ago.  They're performance is....underwhelming.  They barely move

And I think this is a big stoma!  I haven't seen it before.  It's nice to see that some hitchhiker critters made it through the electrocution.  I hope I get babies.  Do I need two for that?

I also saw two limpets at the same time.  At last I know that I'm not just seeing the same one over and over all over the tank

We have light!!!!!!! omgomgomgomgomgomg:happydance::D:):bowdown:

After 47 days in the dark, the lights are on again!  Lots of things look rough, and now that I can actually see it's time to assess the damage.  The power supply arrived yesterday, and I switched it out yesterday evening.  It's amazing to see in the tank again.  I didn't realize how heavily the light situation was weighing on me, but it feels like I can breathe again.

My planted tank didn't get light during this time either because its light was on the reef.  It needs some serious TLC.26392643639_a1d0f67d15_k.jpgPB031414 by orb1915, on Flickr

I still need to take an in depth look at everything, but I was at the house briefly today and I noticed a couple things, good and bad, right away.

Good: The dendro is healthy, the blastos are super puffy, Frank is expanding, the zoas are opening, the leathers look as though the lights never went out.  Seriously, it looks like a couple grew a bit!

Bad: the pink Duncan is gone, on of the other duncans lost a head, the RFA is  small (but I did locate it again), Frank has a couple heads that might bail (but most look healthy, keeping a close eye), the last couple baby plates are pretty much gone, the St. Thomas shroom is really dark, but I think it'll be ok, the watermelon and budgie favias didn't survive.

I took a couple quick pics with my mom's Samsung today.  It takes better pictures than my iPhone 4.  FTS!

Wow, that was a long time without lights.  I am happy the tank looks so good in spite of the hardships it has endured.  'What doesn't kill it makes it stronger' is an appropriate quote for your tank!

Thanks :). The losses are unfortunate, but I think it could have been a lot worse. I'm amazed how well most things did without proper light. The green cabbage leather expanded to it's massive size every day. I'm pretty sure it's the reason the RFA moved. It was getting too close.

When the lights first went out, I thought they would be out for two weeks max. A month and a half was certainly more than planned!  Very fitting quote!  The corals in my tank are strong survivors.  Next on my to do list is rescape the right side, attach the rest of my coral, and watch things grow.  Hopefully there are no serious problems for a long time to come :)

It's been a while, so here's a quick FTS to show that things are still alive and well.  Might I note that I still haven't set up my RO/DI.  I bought distilled yet again for a water change a week ago.  My mom took care of the tank last week while I was at Bamfield Marine Science Center for a school trip. It was a ton of fun!  Right before I left, the dendro did its weird tissue loss thing.  My mom fed it once while I was gone, and it is already mostly regenerated.  I barely bat an eye when I walk out and see it without flesh anymore.

Between melting and shrinking from lights out, and my moving some to the pico, the zoa rock is looking pretty thin.  I hope the ones in the pico do alright, they already weren't in full health.

The toadstool nub is growing into a regular head pretty quick!  It has been a neat process to watch

I was quite surprised!  I've gotta say, I love being able to come home and actually look at things. Now that the light is back in order, I'm considering rescaping the right side so that I can just let things grow in

I have a couple quick updates, and I could use some advice.

First off, I saw Garth!!!!!!! :D  For the first time since he went in the tank I found him!  He's pretty big now.  He has a number of entrances to his burrow.  He was acting weird after lights out.  He came out and started swimming all over.  He also snapped at Jacob the porcelain crab in his loud aggressive pistol shrimp way.

To point number two, Jacob is missing a claw and a leg!  It was either Garth or Leonardo I think.

Third, I think Joe the Halloween hermit it dead :tears: I saw little Joe bits and his shell appears to be empty.  I vote murder.

Leonardo the emerald crab was picking at my blastos, and may have committed crabicide and assault, so for now (when I can catch him) he will be banished to my hang-on fuge.

I'm pretty sure Wayne is dead, as I did not locate him at any of the new found burrow entrances :(

So.......

A) What should I do with Leonardo?  risk leaving him in the tank?  Re-home him?  Banish him to the refugium in the back chambers?

b. Who is voted the homicide/assault offender?  Garth or Leonardo?

C) I forget what else I needed to ask.

could the halloween have moved shells?

The porcelain might have have had a bad molt and lost some parts...... maybe?

the Pistol would be my guess for murders, that’s kind of what they do.

 my last two were so good though

I'm not sure if the Halloween switched shells, but I'll keep an eye out for him.  The reason I figured he was dead was because I saw tiny bits of his legs drifting around, but I suppose that could be a molt.

I might end up putting Leonardo in the refugium in the back.  There is a decent clump of macro for him.

I really hope the pistol doesn't start killing things.  He so cute!  Perhaps look are deceiving.
