Using super glue gel

Penny's Reef

Recommended Posts

So the guys at my LFS told me to use super glue gel to attach frags and polyps to rocks or plugs. I just got some and it says it is cyanoacrylate. I am assuming I got the right stuff, so I guess that means it's fine, I just wanted to check before using to to attach some frags and sticking it in tank. I'm worried about any chemical leaching into my water and causing problems. Can anyone confirm for me I got the right stuff, and that it is okay to put it back in my tank after it sets? Thanks.

Yep you're good to go to attach the polyps and frags to rocks or plugs. Depending on what it is another option is lace/wedding veil to hold it down until it attaches naturally (works good for mushrooms which get a little too slimy for super glue). Fishing line threaded with a sewing needle also works good for soft corals that get slimy.

Check this out for some follow up stuff to attach the plugs/rocks and can also be used for LPS.

Mushrooms walk like nems do, direct flow or unfavourable lighting will make them wander off to find a better spot. I'm currently trying to get a mushroom out of my egg crate shelf in my sump fraging bay. The bugger decided to jump ship off the rock it was on and is now residing in a square of the egg crate. I have put a rock on top of it in the hope it will climb out and round the rock to get to the light again........ time will tell lol.

super glue gel is really the only glue you can use to stick down sps Zoas and any other coral that doesn't slime so much that it detaches it self. you can stick as many corals down as you need to without any worry of hurting your reef.
