Thomas898
Hey guys, got a few additional small pieces of live rock from LFS a few days ago to glue some corals to, and a little pistol shrimp came along for the ride! Thought the clicking was another mantis.. Got lucky this time! It's about half an inch long, body is completely red. Two questions: Most people say they have aggressive pistol shrimp, some piece of my LR have small crabs in them that came as hitchhikers, hard to get out because they're so small, but I'm worried what they'll do when they get bigger. Will the pistol take care of them? And how big does a pistol need to be before you can pair it with a goby? I love seeing everyone's pairs and want to get one going in my display. All tips appreciated Link to comment
Mirya
I have a candy stripe pistol shrimp (Alpheus randalli). He is in my signature, hanging out with his goby. The candy stripe is fine with his tankmates. He gets annoyed at snails when they roam too close to his burrow, but hasn't killed anything. This type of pistol shrimp also stays very small. I'd suggest trying to figure out a species ID on your pistol to figure out if it is one of the more friendly ones or more predatory ones. If you end up keeping him, I don't think he is "too small" to get a goby friend for. Link to comment

Looks similar to some red ones I've seen in peoples pictures, just smaller. Will be keeping him. Now the fun part. Time to pick a goby friend for him! Link to comment
