Coolhandreefer
Hi, will the Maxspect Razor Nano be sufficient coverage for a 24inch 60 gallon cube? It will be for LPS/Softies and a clam or two. If not, what would you suggest in the $300 price range for lighting? Thanks! Link to comment
masterbuilder
Getting straight to the point...no way. Maybe look in the classified section here and other sites for previously loved larger fixture. Not much in your budget as far as new LEDs that will provide enough coverage and/or intensity. Might think about a T5 fixture as well. Link to comment
Horerczy
For a tank that size $300 is a tight but doable budget. T5 might be your best bet unless you don't mind bumping up the budget a bit. Link to comment
CatfishSoupFTW
kessils? 160we goes for under 300 but strength and spread could be an issue. Link to comment
fredfish01
Or a DIY light using two or three of the Nanobox 13-ups. That would get you way more light and much better spread. Link to comment
CrazyCarl
I think coverage at the edges would be an issue, but I think you could absolutely do softies LPS with the any higher light corals in the center. You would also have to hang it at least 12" so its not too dark at the edges. I have the 120W about 8.5" over a 32 x 24 tank and the coverage is not ideal but just don't put corals near the edge of your tank. Depending on the type of clam and placement, you may have issues with a clam though. Just my opinion. Link to comment
Amphiprion1
Well, there are obvious downsides to it, but you could spring for a halide fixture or pendant that would provide plenty of light for that tank within the $300 range. That is including a nicer reflector. You could get by even cheaper with used fixtures and a new lamp. I would just recommend some form of active cooling if you go this route. Beyond that, you aren't going to find too many other things comparable intensity-wise in a ready package for the same price range--at least up front. Not the latest and greatest, but a potential option to throw out there. Link to comment
Coolhandreefer
Thanks a lot for all your opinions! I thought the Razor Nano had a slim chance but nvm lol. I really just liked it because its slim and doesn't require ceiling hanging or a DIY project. What do you guys think about the Reefbreeders 16inch or 24inch Photon? Link to comment
Horerczy
Photon 24. Its only $10 more so might as well. It will help get the front to back coverage in the corners up if nothing else. Also lets you run the fixture at lower settings so less heat to worry about. Link to comment
Coolhandreefer
Thanks! I'll probably be going with the photon 24 than, I've been reading a lot of good reviews on those lights. Link to comment
Horerczy
They are quite capable lights. Not the best or most efficient fixture out there(they use chinese epileds) but the best offering in their class (Evergrow and Evergrow based fixtures) to be sure. Link to comment
Daveluce
I bought my razor nano from a guy that had it on a 60 cube. He didn't have coral in the tank, but told me he could grow anything in that tank with it. No way. I almost didn't buy the light because of the way it looked on that tank. I was pleasantly surprised when I put it on my nano tank. My advise it to keep your eyes on local reef clubs and Craigslist. I picked up my razor nano for 50$ last year, and picked up a 27" razor for 50$ a couple months ago. Link to comment

Daveluce
Did you actually get them for $50 a piece? I sure did! The guy selling the nano was asking 150$, but we got to talking for a couple hours and he gave me 100$ back. Couldn't believe it. The 27" was sold to me by a lady that lost her job. She needed money that day to pay bills. She couldn't figure out how to program it so she thought it was broken. It works 100%! I actually sent her a Xmas card with 100$ in it because I felt bad, but she returned it. She had a bunch of other stuff she was selling dirt cheap, but nothing I could have used. I thought about buying everything and reselling, but I figured since I already got a good deal, I'd let the other local reefers get some deals too. Link to comment
