PirateJing
Hello everyone, I have not been on in a very long time! Well I have decided to come back and do a .9 gallon tank. And I would like to make my own LED lighting for it. I am a complete newbie at this lighting thing and I have done as much reading as I can. I believe I have the basic gist of it. Expected results- to be able to meet the lighting requirements of SPS corals and make their colors pop and also aid growth. LEDs used- 3 Cree XTE royal blues: http://www.ledsupply.com/leds/cree-xte-indus-star-1-up-royal-blue-high-power-led 2 Cree XLamp Neutral white: http://www.ledsupply.com/leds/cree-xlamp-xpe2-high-power-led (problem is I am not sure how to tell if they are 3 watt LEDs ) Heat sink used- Makers LED heat sink 6 inches - http://www.ledsupply.com/led-heatsinks/makersled-heatsink-kit Drivers used- Lux buckpuck - http://www.ledsupply.com/led-drivers/buckpuck-1000ma-constant-current-led-driver-with-dimming ( not sure if it is sufficient power or not) Questions include: How do I tell if LEDs are 3 watts? Is the buckpuck I have chosen suffient? How do I choose optics for 60 degrees for my selected LEDs? How to choose correct power supply ? I really appreciate anyone's help! Piratejing Link to comment
ew_fish
That driver drives 1000ma and up to 6 3w leds the leds you posted are 3w if im not mistakenThe RB led is max drive at 1500ma& White led is max drive at 1000maI would get a dimmable driver it will help with life of the led & so you don't have to have the light so far upDriverhttp://www.ledsupply.com/led-drivers/buckpuck-1000ma-constant-current-led-driver-with-dimmingOptics for XTE RBhttp://www.ledsupply.com/cree-xte-led-opticsOptics and LED for NWhttp://www.ledsupply.com/leds/luxeon-rebel-endor-star-1-up-neutral-white-high-power-ledhttp://www.ledsupply.com/luxeon-rebel-led-optics Link to comment
PirateJing
thank you very much ew_fish. Currently if I am correct, I have 15w of LEDs. Is that sufficient in having SPS? I know what I can have if I went out and bought a commercial fixture but when I am building from scratch I am completely lost :/ Link to comment
jedimasterben
LEDs used- 3 Cree XTE royal blues: http://www.ledsupply.com/leds/cree-xte-indus-star-1-up-royal-blue-high-power-led 2 Cree XLamp Neutral white: http://www.ledsupply.com/leds/cree-xlamp-xpe2-high-power-led (problem is I am not sure how to tell if they are 3 watt LEDs ) FYI http://www.ledgroupbuy.com/ Lux buckpuck - http://www.ledsupply.com/led-drivers/buckpuck-1000ma-constant-current-led-driver-with-dimming Don't bother with Buckpucks. They were shitty drivers several years ago and they're still shitty drivers today. How do I tell if LEDs are 3 watts? Wattage is just how much power the LED takes in and really doesn't matter. There are many LEDs that are '3w' class that don't use that much or use more. How do I choose optics for 60 degrees for my selected LEDs? You don't want lenses. Link to comment
PirateJing
thank you jedimaster! more reading material for me! Link to comment
CrazyEyes
Why not simplify it a bit and use a 3up from Steves (RB: RB: NW) then run them off a nano driver from rapid, just a thought. Link to comment
PirateJing
I think I am switching it up bit. I plan on getting a bigger tank in a year. So I believe I will be getting the cree lumia 5.2's in the end Link to comment
