Nano Box V3 Array : Lime, Luxeon T, UV

Recommended Posts

DaveFason

Nano Box started with a mission to make one of the best LED fixtures on the market. Starting in a small corner desk and now a full shop things have grown big time! I try to listen to customers and take feedback to heart from everyone. People were asking for a multi channel Nano Box array. I went to the drawing board and used my original design along with new technology. Using the new Luxeon T, Rebel ES lime, higher output Rebel Blue, Cyan and SEMILED violets. I feel this is one of the best and cutting edge arrays to date.

V3 - Nano Box Array consists of :

  • 2 - SEMILED Violet CH1
  • 2 - REBEL ES Lime CH2
  • 1 - Rebel Cyan CH3
  • 1 - Rebel Blue CH3
  • 4 - Luxeon T Royal Blue CH4
  • 3 - Luxeon T Neutral White & Warm White CH2

For anyone wanting a quick guide to the voltage and wattage requirements of each channel, it is as follows:

CH1 (2x Luxeon T 2700K warm white, 1x Luxeon T 4000K neutral white, 2x Rebel ES lime)

  • 13.6v @ 350mA (4.8 watts)
  • 14v @ 700mA (9.8 watts)
  • 14.3v @ 1A (14.3 watts)

CH2 (4x Luxeon T royal blue)

  • 10.9v @ 350mA (3.8 watts)
  • 11.2v @ 700mA (7.8 watts)
  • 11.5v @ 1A (11.5 watts)

CH3 (2x SemiLEDs C35 violet)

  • 6.8v @ 350mA (2.4 watts)
  • 7.2v @ 700mA (5 watts)

CH4 (1x Rebel blue, 1x Rebel cyan)

  • 5.8v @ 350mA (2 watts)
  • 6.2v @ 700mA (4.3 watts)
  • 6.4v @ 1A (6.4 watts)

I will be offering multi channel units for a small increase in price but all Nano Box units will still come standard with dual channel dimming. The current ( V2 ) dual channel ratio looks incredible in person and that same ratio is used in the V3 array. However much more efficient and as Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor would say, " MORE POWER ". I will also install the new array on any Nano Box unit for the price of the array plus shipping. Free labor for my Nano Bots!

Price : $54.95

That's awesome Dave! About how much more output do you get from the updated array?

Technically, the Luxeon T basically has the same output as the Rebel ES except test temperature is 85C instead of 25C, meaning that at the same temperature, the T would be ~7% better, but Dave also seems to have gotten better binning and is confirming that now for me :)

EDIT: I lied. Without taking temperature into account, the Luxeon T white is 10.3% more efficient than the Rebel ES, and moving from 85C test to 25C (matching the Rebel ES) it adds another 8.5%, for a total efficiency gain of ~18.8%.

For royal blue, there isn't really a 'typical' bin for the Rebel ES, so I would venture to guess the same 10.3% gain and then it gets ~7.5% from temperature, for ~17.5% gain.

aka holy gawd.

Also Dave - stop making everything better every 2 weeks. I can't keep up. This is like smartphone stuff. As soon as people get a light, you are making better ones! lol

Wow. So considering that's 7 of the 13 LEDs gaining about 18% efficiency, you're looking at a back of the envelope calculation of ~10% realistic gain over the previous array (as I don't know the binning I can't be more accurate in computing the total increase, but in this case I think a general calculation is fine). Plus 4 channel control while decreasing the price of the raw boards (I know it's more for 4 channel control on a unit due to increases in the number of drivers and a bit more time wiring, but still). Good lord, Dave. You rock.

And actually, the violet LEDs have doubled in output, as well. Some of Dave's previous boards have had them, but now all of the new ones do.

I have used the current array for around a year and some.

I felt that using the new Lux T was a HUGE factor. The limes themselves separated the NBR line from the pack in my opinion.

I was just messing with you ;)

This new array looks killer. Mad props. I may be purchasing some additional work in the near future. I sent you another email, btw - easier to email at work than phone (phone is usually in my bag or something on silent, email is at the computer)

Damn, that's a good looking board. Just when I give up on leds... something amazing like this pops up,and at a amazing price at that. Does this mean that your other boards will drop in price ? I also LOVE the terminal labeling.

No, all units from this point on will use these new boards. The $55 is if you want to purchase the boards to DIY or if you already have a unit that you wish to have upgraded.

Awesome! Love the combination. I really need to replace my beast of an LED array with something more streamline. Seriously considering one of your lights.
