cheezefrog
I'm planning on setting up a frag tank here in the next few days. It is a 10g tank w/ an aquamana 165w led panel, a little overkill I know but it'll be dimmed manually significantly. My question though does it matter if the lightening is on instantly with 80%-full output on sunrise/sunset. I know a ramp up/down(sunrise/sunset) is important in reef aquariums w/ fish and corals so it doesnt shock them, but I wanted to know if it'll matter with a frag tank setup. Link to comment
GHill762
ramp up and down is not important at all, it's solely for the viewer. reef tanks have been running MH and T5HO on On/Off timers for years. there have been some discussions on its importance but from everything I've read it's just a nice novelty and allows us to run longer hours with lights on. CronicReefer
The only benefit I notice from ramp up/down is I don't startle the fish when the lights come on. Otherwise there is no strong evidence to support you will get better growth/results. Link to comment
