If you get even a whiff of that peppermint messing with the acans, he gotta go....trust me on that. also, patience with the hammer....mine takes forever to grow too...i have one at a year thats just now starting to take off. Crap. I don't know how I didn't know that or maybe I just forgot. I'll for sure keep a close on them. Definitely prefer the acans to the shrimp. Okay that's good to hear, I feel like mine is finally starting to grow. I can see two little nubs growing off the base so I'm happy about that! Quote Link to comment

My sump has some aptasia, so that may be there next home too. Quote Link to comment

Travis
A spike in the success or failure direction? lol Quote Link to comment

Kayman
Haha oh my! You're starting to scare me now, I'm afraid I'll get home from work now to dead acans I lost a few to alk swings before I started using kalk, so don't want to go through dying acans again. Quote Link to comment
Kayman
Oh yeah I forgot to say that I made a change to my sump. I could not get Cheato to grow in my fuge, it would just persist but never grew. The baffle from the first section had about a 3in drop and always grew hair algae, so that gave me an idea. I decided to make a quick easy angled baffle algae scrubber and ditch the cheato for now. I need to rough up the mesh a bit more I think but after a week it's got some growth on it. I'll probably add a small power head under it to keep my middle section from being to still. Has some cyano in it on the glass as is. Quote Link to comment
Indiana Reefin
Nice algae scrubber! 1 Quote Link to comment
Kayman
So I know everyone was loving the frogspawn the other day, well bad news ha. During my water change today I decided to pull it out and the rock it was on to try and clean up the algae in it and on the rock. Only place in the tank where it is really a problem. Well while doing this I accidentally fragged it into two pieces the rock also broke in half but I was able to putty and glue that back together so I saved myself from having to do up a new scape. I'm not happy with the placement of the two pieces now but I'm waiting until it opens fully so I can get an idea of how each piece will look. Looking at the positive, hopefully being in two pieces helps with flow and keeps the algae down. Doh! 2 1 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
now you will have 2 beautiful frog spawn colonies! 1 Quote Link to comment
Kayman
Well today I couldn't pass up some cheap $5 montis someone local was selling. Got a green digitata, purple digitata and two pieces of purple cap. The purple digitata is probably 4inches tall with a few branches the green is smaller with a few branches and the cap pieces are about 1square inch and one that is a good 3 inches across. I'm really not even sure where to put them but I have them now. 1 1 Quote Link to comment
Kayman
Been a long time since I last posted. Since then I've fragged a good 8 heads off my frogspawn and traded them in. Got food and a nice hammer for it. Unfortunately one of my peppermints absolutely destroyed the hammer coral over night which is weird because it never touched the older one I had. That pep now lives in the sump and I have been unable to catch his friend, that one has been behaving though. My kenya tree took off with growth and has now dropped babies all over, so that's going to be fun to take care of. My monti caps are growing great but the digitatas don't seem to be doing much. My birdsnest has also fully recovered from looking near death at the beginning of the year and I'm very happy I didn't pitch it. Thinking about adding a fourth fish as my nitrates are always really low and I have no algae issues besides dustings on the glass. Not sure what to add though hmmm.... Oh also does anyone know where I should move my green sinularia? You can see it closed up behind the purple monti in the top left. It hasn't seemed to grow at all in over a year. Should I move it down? 1 Quote Link to comment
Kayman
Apparently I only post once a year... Alright I'm going to try and be much more active on here now. I'm feeling more confident with my tank and how I run it so I'm feeling I can contribute more than just looking. Since last October I've rescaped the tank a bit since my birdsnest colony had STN and had to frag it up. Was a big bummer because it had really blown up into a nice colony after almost being dead about a two years ago.Overall everything else has been good and I am looking forward to trying some more SPS. I think the main new additions in the last year would be some rock flowers (just got two little ones this weekend) and some forest fire digitata. I've been selling a good amount of frogspawn too as it just never seems to get any smaller and am now working on selling or trading a bunch of birdsnest frags, so that's fun. This is probably my last FTS before I fragged it up. Oh yeah I also sold the torch as i never could find a happy spot for it where it didn't cause problems. My duncan is now hosting my clowns, so that's fun. Newest addition 2 1 Quote Link to comment

Kayman
Thanks! I feel like I should actually have an update on my algae scrubber that I posted about last year. It's been pretty great overall I would say. I get a lot of growth on it every week and then I just scrape it off with an old CC every week. The only issue with it is that in the rockwork and fuge underneath it I have a billion bristle worms haha but I guess they are serving a purpose so I let them be. Though they have done a number on my hands.... Quote Link to comment

Kayman
There are some in display for sure, which is fine as long as they don't end up matching the numbers they have going down in the sump haha I've tried gloves, but they always end up ripping or filling with water anyway. Should probably look into getting some thicker, kitchen gloves for when I'm messing around down there though! 1 Quote Link to comment
Kayman
Took a bunch of pictures the other day so here are a few. Also I'm seriously considering adding a baby nem and risking it moving around a bit, unless I'm told it's a dumb idea. 😄 Thoughts? I'm thinking I would put it here and there a few spots it could move around there and be okay and would have room to grow...I think... Hmmmm Anyway here are some pics. 2 Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
I miss my nem, but it rapidly outgrew its space and frequently split, so for the sake of the rest of the inhabitants I got rid of it. Nice photos btw Quote Link to comment
Kayman
Thanks! Yeah that's kinda my fear but it's something I've been thinking of trying for awhile and I know my girlfriend would love it. So it may happen at some point. Quote Link to comment
Pjanssen
Go for it. It was easy enough to get out of the tank. Not like trying to catch a wrasse or something 1 Quote Link to comment
DNR88
That's a great looking tank, wonderfull to see everything growing in for the last years! When one day a tank of me only looks half as good as this one, I would be very satisfied. 😄 2 Quote Link to comment
Sharbuckle
Your tank looks fantastic. Looks bigger than 29g! Definitely keep up the updates. 1 Quote Link to comment
