lkoechle
My over flow is silent. I have two 45 degree turns before the drain empties in to the sump about 3" before the water line. It's like a hot tub jet in there. My husband is going to try and build a reverse durso in there tonight. We tried poking air holes above the water line on the PVC drain, which quieted it down quite a bit. Before, it was sounding like a jet readying for take off. Now it just sounds, well loud, but much more contained. Any other suggestions in case the reverse durso doesn't work? Link to comment
jestep
I'm assuming this is a single durso... About what flow rate are you running? If your reverse durso doesn't work, try put a ball valve on the return line and reduce the flow rate into the DT and see if it quiets down. In a single durso even with a maggie or other muffling system I've always needed to reduce the flow considerably to get it quiet because it makes a ton of noise when emptying into the sump. On my 90, I would guess I'm running at most 5x turnover through my sump. Any more and my overflow gets loud. Link to comment
lkoechle
I have no idea, but its a goodly amount of flow. My husband doesn't like the idea of the valve, I suggested it last night. He likes how much flow the display has and doesn't want to stress the return. But I'm thinking the same thing that valve might be the only way to do it. I've also suggested buying some of those mats at car audio places and sound proofing the stand lol Link to comment
Marc.The.Shark
I put a 4-way plumbing connector on the end of my drain, dropped the drain below the waterline & the two side outlets about 1/2 inch below the waterline so the air escapes befor churning under the water. Made it a lot quieter, can't hear it with the door to my stand closed. Like this: Link to comment

lkoechle
Solved the problem. Copy and pasted from my build thread: So got the plumbing all working . The only immediate problem we had was the drain being so loud. We fixed that tonight with an interesting spin on the reverse durso. We connected the drain to 90 elbow which went to a an upside down tee to another 90 elbow to a drain below the water line with drilled holes. The holes were from a previous attempt to silence the drain but ended up working perfectly for this. When we use a new solid piece of pvc for the project, it got all riled up again. So that non-drilled stretch went into the upside down tee for the air. Pictures for reference. Link to comment
aesp533262
I just did this the other day but was still getting noise. I will try to drill some small holes in the pipe that extends off the t into the water and give that a try. THANKS! Link to comment
