Survived where a lot of other acros wouldn't. I was scared that I was going to lose my colony, so I gave it to my LFS for safekeeping while things stabilized, but found a small 1" nub on my rockwork. I just stuck it on there and it just encrusted the rock and started growing. Haven't bothered to get my original colony from the LFS since this one seems to be doing ok... 2 Quote Link to comment
pokerdobe
And I broke off another nub, less than half a centimeter. Stuck it on a frag plug and a couple months later ended up with this: I have another broken nub, so let's see how that one does if no one picks up. 2 Quote Link to comment

teenyreef
Just in the last month, the katropora in my 40g tank became a great example of how a coral can encrust forever and then suddenly start popping up all over. Here are some time sequence pictures: April 9, 2017, right after I got it from @drgibby, all browned out from 2-day shipping: May 29, 2017. Starting to encrust, but stubbornly bright green: November 1, 2017. Boooooring. February 3, 2017. Zzzzzzzzzzz....wait, there are some tiny bits of blue in there! March 29, 2018. Almost a year later. OMG THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!!! Quote Edit 9 1 Quote Link to comment
HarryPotter
That’s so sexy. Mine has been on the verge of death for a few months: super light brown, no PE and the faintest hint of any color. No idea why, as every other acro is thriving. 1 Quote Link to comment
Tamberav
My frag had to go when I moved to new apt and tank was suffering badly (emergency got rid of everything in one big buy out to save lives!). If anyone ends up with a frag they would like to sell, my current SPS are doing well and I am ready to try again even if it is just a tiny nub. 22 minutes ago, teenyreef said: Just in the last month, the katropora in my 40g tank became a great example of how a coral can encrust forever and then suddenly start popping up all over. Every time i see a bird of paradise in person it is browned out or pale.. but seeing yours makes me think I should try one. 1 Quote Link to comment
metrokat
Happy to see any coral sprout new nubs. I had several frags after my tank crash when I lost most of my mother colony but fragged the tips to save them. About 2-3 months ago I glued most of those tips to a large disk and the coral has both incrusted and is growing. My secondary colony is still very healthy and colorful but I don't see new growth tips on it. Frags are also growing. Also, Okeanos coral sells the Kat https://okeanoscoral.com/sps/katropora 2 Quote Link to comment

They already have an established bacterial population. My personal favorite is uncured rock for the bio slime that comes with fresh rocks. 4 hours ago, Tamberav said: Looks great kat! HarryPotter
@teenyreef @pokerdobe my frag is sexier than yours!! I thought it was just about dead, super pale, but after moving it to an upper rack (due to space), it appears it may have some fight left! I wonder if it always wanted light... but it was so pale. I always have given pale corals less lighting until they acclimate. 2 Quote Link to comment
