Chillers

Backstory:

So here's the situation. I live in one of those lovely spots on the earth that gets absolutely scorched by the vengeful sun every summer. South Florida. It often reaches 95 F (35 C) during the peak of the summer. Since my house it entirely hardwood flooring my aquarium is located on the patio. Anything else is just too risky. You can see where this is going. Last summer I was lucky and it never got too hot. Plus I didn't have any sensitive SPS corals back then. But this summer I'm planning on getting a chiller. I'm on a tight budget so I can only afford a used one. I've scoured ebay and found none in my local area. But there are a few on craigslist. Thing is I know nothing about chillers. Not even which brands are reputable. So I'm asking advice on which one to buy.

MD is having a chiller sale or just had one.

 

Buying a used chiller is more risky than buying a used refrigerator. Most people dont have thousands worth of foood in their fridge.

 

Get an RKL and some moisture sensors, move it inside and use your AC...?

A 10% off sale is still twice as expensive as buying used. I don't have the money.

Wait, buying a used refrigerator is extremely risky? I've never had issues with it. I always thought it was fairly common since they're extremely expensive to buy new yet last a really long time with minimal maintenance.

My corals total around a $150 in value so neither do I. I don't have a fancy huge heavily stocked SPS tank with automated equipment like some of you guys. If I did I would have the money for a high end new chiller and I wouldn't have made this thread in the first place.

That won't fix leaks or spills from buckets, bulkheads, tanks, etc. I already had to redo the wood flooring in my bedroom once because I spilled maybe a gallon of water from a bucket, and I'm never going through that again.

 

Look I know you're just trying to help me out by "saving me from a potential disaster" but I really don't have the money. My main purpose in creating this thread was to ask if anyone had any input regarding the quality of different brands or what not.

I'm in Alabama and my house is a old non central cool beast. I to am looking for a chiller and found one at half cost from a aquarium service shop. Try asking local stores and if you no one well enough. They may let you put a wanted flier up. You may also call the manufacturer and ask if they have any refurbished for sale.
