I'm resurrecting my journal rather than starting a new one... sold the 15g probably in 2015. After moving around a bunch, I'm back at it, this time with an Evo 13.5. it got wet on nov 22, 2019, so I have quite a few pictures of progress

Took some care with scaping, and had the idea to make legs for the bottom rock using hot glue so it wouldn't be on the glass. So far no issues, and it made placing the rocks exactly the way I wanted possible, easy, and safe for the glass and inhabitants.. my prediction is that since the hot glue bond is only working in compression it won't ever be an issue. I didn't find anything suggesting that cure hot glue would leach anything into the water, but it's also not exposed to the water column so I'm not worried about it.

Don't like the idea of an ATO using a pump, so I made a gravity feeding ATO. has worked well so far.. the only thing I was worried about was the reservoir volume, but there is very little evaporation in the Evo with the covers on.

Excuse my clowns photo bombing.. I think my zoa's might have pox. those heads have been closed for a while, super tightly closed so it almost looks like there is no opening.. if you zoom in on them, it looks like there might be some white spots? Can see it with the camera better than naked eye.. Can anyone who's seen them confirm?

Zoa's: RIP. Didn't ID pox in time.. seemed to respond to treatment then got worse after a few days with almost all heads closed, and open ones showing signs of infections. Only casualty so far.

Great looking tank! I like the rock work and the cabinet progress.  I'm going to be following in your footsteps shortly with an EVO 13.5.

that is funny about the thermometers.  I have the coralife version that is many years old.  It reads low as well (compared to a newer version from another company).  I suspect it has to do with depleted battery?

Thanks!  I was cooking my tank for a while because of that stupid thermometer. The new one is more in line with heater indicated temp. I also moved the heater to 1st chamber, I think it wasn't getting enough flow in pump chamber because of the way the water is diverted.

Refugium/chaeto reactor: engaged.. wasn't sure it was gonna do well.. already had to harvest, although it doesn't take much to pack that chamber full 😂

Also a fts of the long view

the ricordea is very bleached.  will be interesting to see what color it turns into when it recovers.  i see a hint of orange

How do you know it's bleached? It's is super colorful under actinic lighting, and there were multiple color variants around it, all seemed healthy.. I've never kept them and assumed it was just it's color.

An orange ric should match the color of your clownfish.  Your photo shows very little color on the ricordea, just the outer skirts.  Each bubble should be bright orange.

3 month update. 3 weeks since the ricordea, and I've added.. quite a bit. I think after today, it's fully stocked/over stocked. Red mushrooms, beautiful "green hairy mushroom" which I believe is rhodactis, pink zoas, devil's hand frag (which I thought was a toadstool) more green gsp, and a rock flower anemone.

Today I intended to go get more RFAs, but LFS sold out for an event, and the last of the "black widow" rBTAs I had been ogling with restraint suddenly seemed.. rationalize-able.. last one left, it is rarely available, deeply discounted, and I am pretty nervous but a tiny bit more confident after the rock flower anemone, and the purchase gave me three chances to win some tank set ups from a raffle for the event. Bought a net for my power head and sent it.

BTA looks happy, I changed my return nozzles to reduce direct current in that spot, has stayed where I put him so far, but reached further than I expected and is beating up my RFA already.. hopefully my RFA moves, it had already shown me it is very capable.. see video. Also, I didn't notice at the LFS, but during acclimation, I noticed BTA is pinched on one side... I think it was starting to split at the store.

Over all, tank health is good, only casualty was the first zoa frag. Duncan's finally look like I see 2 new heads forming. GSP is moving up wall, Xenia will be onto it's island rock soon. I'm curious to see how this beautiful BTA does long term.. hoping for the best, expecting the worst 😅😅😅

Spied on the BTA last night.. it moved, but went back to where I put it by morning.. looks happier than ever today, and even moved a little further from the rock nem so they aren't bothering each other. Once a week spot feed of the whole tank scallops/brine shrimp/reef roids had everyone puffed up and happy. And got a better look at Duncans to confirm 4 new heads forming 😁

Welp.. I was gifted an Ai Hydra 52.. screen top and overkill light was not the plan at all, but couldn't turn down the light. Screen top increased evaporation by at least 7x, but the light is so much better for aesthetics and I'm sure I'll see a difference in growth. Only bad part is, taking pictures is difficult, as the light has to be at lower settings, and I believe the LEDs are pulsed to achieve lower intensity, which really bugs out the camera.
