Christopher Marks
Nice DIY AIO build @lambogriffin! Very clean, this will be a great upgrade for your tank. I like the floating wood light design too, looking forward to seeing it all come together. 1 Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
Counter balanced suspended Light/hood: complete.. it was more of a pain than I imagined, but... It works! 😅 I think I only need some more sand and water now, eyeballing this weekend for the big move 😅 here's the lights over my current tank.. can't wait to see them over the 29g! 1 Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
Almost 2 months after purchasing a new tank and starting the AIO build.. the Evo is decommissioned! An unprecedented (for me lol) level of patience and planning was key, and the move went more smoothly than I imagined it would. I was worried about the super glued live rock breaking apart when I moved it, but it held up fine. All the critters were safely transferred, and the clown and shrimp even ate greedily while they were in the rubbermade tote between teardown and set up. Here's some shots of the transfer (yesterday) and some shots from tonight after everything has settled in. 1 Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
Banggai and hammer frag added 😁. Put my powerhead back in as well. Planning on a royal gramma as well and that's probably it besides a few more frags. Wish I could have zoa's, but they seem to just wither in my tank. Transplanted most of my GSP that has grown on the Evo wall to the tippy top rock in my scape.. Think it will look cool if it takes over that rock. Considering getting rid of my xenia bush and the rhodactis that isn't attached to rock, and moving devil's hand to that end. Does anyone have experience fragging rhodactis? Or.. just trimming them to keep them under control? Pics Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
Think this rhodactis is about to rip itself in half: Random close up pics because the camera was cooperating: 2 Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
Welp. No more finicky eaters for me... I suspect I didn't feed frozen enough, and the other day I fed frozen and the banggai wasnt even interested in that, and was gone the next day I added a royal gramma shortly after last post, and it is almost as voracious as my clown. Will probably pick up a lone green chromis. As was to be expected, I've got a diatom bloom with the addition of dry rock and new sand. Cuc is responding enthusiastically lol. I don't know if this a valid strategy, or I'm just lazy, but I haven't done a water change or tested water. I basically wait until algae starts building up on the glass at a rate that is more than just a dusting/is inconvenient to clean off. It hasn't happened yet. I noticed that my xenia was looking.. off, and that combined with matting corals (gsp and zoa's) not thriving made me think I have some trace element deficiency, so I started dosing kent essential elements, weekly at lower than recommended dose. Since then, I've noticed visible growth daily on GSP, and everything else is poofy/ happy looking. FTS!: Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
Think it's a split? Has been acting a little weird.. Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
New pics/Update. Lost chromis after losing cardinal, I think they just weren't getting enough food, but I have no appetite for trying a 3rd fish again atm, so it will just be clown, gramma, shrimp gang I guess. changed up hard scape as it was creating some shadowing, and my gap was getting too much light I think. Bta did not end up splitting.. hairy mushroom did, and is healing up now. Also added a green pavona frag, which is first fps I've ever tried to keep. Pics! 2 Quote Link to comment
lambogriffin
Update. Tank has been pretty neglected, pretty much top offs and feeding for the last year, all the stoney corals withered. On the upside, the bubble algae was so thick that it just came off in huge clumps. Probably threw out a couple hundred dollars worth of red mushrooms if they had been sold as frags, but they were attached and mingled with the bubble algae. 3 pints of algae later, glass scrape, and filter deep clean +water change.. looks.. less neglected. BTA split, hoping to nurse them back to health. Xenia is barely hanging on as well so hopefully it comes back. Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
Wow that's a-lot of bubble algae. The tanks looking good without it! Quote Link to comment

Ty, Def not looking so neglected.. although I was looking back through this thread and it made me realize how much I lost. I think I might have had dinos at one point that smothered my LPSs and I kinda just lost the will to fight it. Don't want to lose my BTAs though, so.. back at it. Quote Link to comment
debbeach13
At one point I got rid of my BTA’s now with 3 tanks I wish I hadn’t done that. Quote Link to comment
