After way too much planning, here's my tank, trying to go through a cycle:

I can't tell from the picture but if your rock doesn't have any pieces with coralline algae growth on them I recommend adding some. This will "seed" your tank for the purple/red algaes.

The only thing that's alive in the tank right now is some bacteria. I have quite a lot of things that I will need to introduce to the tank. Other than a piece of rock with coralline algae on it, I'll be introducing pods, bristle worms, brittle stars, and other stuff. Anything but a eunice worm that grew to about eighteen inches in my last tank.

Thanks. To get my wife involved at least a little bit in this endeavor, I let her do the rock scaping!

Wow, that's a nice scape! Did you buy the rock in those sizes, or did you break bigger rock into smaller portions?

I broke bigger rocks down with a hammer in my garage.
