AWillroth
Where does everyone here order coral from online? Anyplace that isn't $30+ for shipping? Link to comment
Tamberav
Unless it is someplace in the same state, they are generally all $35-45. There are some places that will ship less sensitive items priority like sealifeinc. Link to comment
AWillroth
That kind of sucks. My Lfs shut down. I hear a lot are closing, with online retailers being one of the big reasons. Is everybody just alright with everything they buy costing an extra 40 bucks? Most places offer free shipping on large orders, but I'm never gonna drop $200 on corals for my 20 gallon. And #### paying $45 for what should be a $10 frag. Guess I'm just doomed to have the same livestock forever. Major bummer. Link to comment
BoxKing
http://uniquecorals.com/ (currently) You have to catch an online store at the right moments, where they offer specials. Another way you can overcome dealing with the cost for shipping is to share the load with someone else, friend or local reefer.. split the cost of delivery, or build enough together to get free shipping. I prefer LFS... WYSIWYG in person, and full inspection. Also, look in forums to see if you have local frag swaps.. this is a pretty popular time of the year for these to start popping up. If the online stores plus shipping wasn't cheaper or didn't have better value(health) than your lfs it wouldn't have shut down. Link to comment

I order online a lot and as long as you pick a reputable vender, you get pest free beautiful corals with a guarantee and a larger selection. I order all my fish online too. Not much a vender can do since shipping something heavy (water in bags) overnight is costly. If people choose to shop online over a LFS, there is probably a reason for it. Link to comment
patback
You also have to look at what is available in the area. Around by me Duncan's are $45 a head. Other people can buy a large colony for that price at their lfs. Usually 3 or more items plus shipping by me will start saving money, then you also have places like live aquaria that has healthy items to begin with and give extended guarantees in excess of two weeks at times. Red_Blenny
Unique Corals. Their Overnight Fedex was $35 flat rate but now they're doing it for $19...... I believe they're offering it at this price till like June 19th. http://uniquecorals.com/shipping/ Link to comment
AWillroth
Ended up driving an hour to the nearest Lfs and nought a frogspawn and a ric for way too much, but I felt obligated to buy after making the hour trek. Some hilights were a "$90 polyp rock" covered in trash polyps, green chromis for $20 and a frag tank of what looked like $10 frags priced at 2 for 50. Link to comment

smiley28
See for me the nearest decent lfs is 90+ minutes away that's the cost of shipping alone in gas and the added fact that often times an lfs might not have the selection you were hoping couple of factors like that make online retailers an easy choice Link to comment

I'm actually much happier with my purchase than I was before. The ricordea is a Yuma, and has about 4 more polyps around the main one that I couldn't see at the fish store. The frogspawn is two heads and has the brightest green tips I've ever seen. Got the pair for $50. That said, most the other corals in their frag tank weren't nearly the deal. They clearly didn't know what they had, and had almost every item in the store severely over or underpriced. Might go back and see what other steals I can find. Link to comment
