Hi,

I get a lot of evaporation from my tank water I think because of my dimensions. When the water evaporates will it take away any bad stuff from the tank ie. nitrates, phosphates or do they stay in the tank? I thought okay there is quite a bit of evaporation going on but if its taking away nitrates, phosphates or anything not good for my tank then that's a plus.

Thanks in advance. :)

Sadly, no. The dissolved substances in the water stay dissolved. Essentially, what's evaporating is clean fresh water

Aww I would have loved the amount of evaporation in my tank if it had any positive effect on my parameters, but oh well worth asking for.

Thanks tennis20.

The salt stays in as well. Which can get dangerous very quickly in small tanks.

yep that's why i'm considering an auto topup before I stock any corals. Its not too small of a nano, its around 20 gallons/

Probably a good idea, especially if you travel. I have a 3g and a 57g (both open-top). In the summer I top off about 5g a week on the large one, which is easy, plus it's freshwater, so there isn't any salinity to worry about. But the 3g (which is also in a warmer room) has to get fresh RO water twice a day. I don't have an ATO unit because "danger" is my middle name. http://www.cosgan.de/smilie.php'>g075.gif

An ATO is one of the best things I have ever invested in for this hobby. I hated getting down on my knnes and dumping buckets of water in my sump every other day!

I can only agree on this. It's the best accessory for your tank you can invest in ...
