saltman123
I'm firing up a 3.5G pico soon. Anyone use the BRS dry rock? I was thinking dry so I can take my time aquascaping in such a small tank. After shipping its about the same price as LR locally at one store about 30 minutes away, so that's my other easy option. The Reef Saver rock seems to stack really nicely so that's why i'm considering it. Anyone use the Pukani instead? I thought that was cool too, but it seems like it won't stack as nice. About how many pounds with a 3.5G? About 5Lbs? and maybe an extra lb or 2 for aquascaping options? ice. What as the cycle like in such as small tank and how long before you added anything? Did you pre-treat the rock in any way beforehand? Link to comment
Fishstiks
I ordered BRS reef saver for my 5 gallon last week for the same reason. LR is fairly expensive here, and the rock in my current tank has a few guests I dont want invited to the new pico tank. Since I had to order my RO/DI unit, I figured I might as well get the rock too. I was debating between that and the figi, but figured this would probably stack and shape better for my little tank. It should be arriving this week, I ordered 12 lbs for a 5 gallon tank, so I should have lots of options for aquascaping. I can post pics when it arrives to give you an idea of what to expect if you want. Link to comment

The Pukani also looks cool though, might just flip a coin. Which RO/DI did you go with? Planning to drink it too, or just use for tank? I am considering one of their units too. Link to comment
Fishstiks
I went with the recommended 4 stage unit 75 gpd, with the tds reader, flush kit, etc. I think its the "plus" model. Will just be using it for the tanks. Link to comment

The small crevices are full of crap and can cause algae blooms. Just something to be aware of. reef saver is 100% clean. Link to comment

Pukani will probably pollute your pico tank unless you do an acid bath (which probably isn't worth it). I love using Reef Saver rocks and it is easier to aquascape with IMO. Link to comment
