Smithjm5
So I've been running the new cobalt aquatics canister filter for about 3 weeks now with lily pipes and so far I love it. But I have just been using the media it came with so far, it has four trays for media in the canister and you can put any media in any order you want. It came with (from bottom to top) a sponge, carbon pellets, some type of ceramic pellets and finally some filter floss. I just wanted to know peoples opinions on what media to use. I'll keep the sponge in the bottom and have filter floss already for the top tray, but I've heard good things about chemi pure elite and purigen but don't really know the difference. Do people use them together? Or are they the same type of filtration just different brands? Thanks! Link to comment
farkwar
Different. CPE is GAC with a little GFO, in a really cool mesh bag. Purigen is some kind of ion exchange polymer. Read its description, for better explanation. Link to comment
frankdontsurf
Id use ceramic rings or matrix (seachem), and in the last layer of the media basket gac/gfo 2:1 ratio. Every other month rinse the rings with your water from the water change and replace the gac/gfo mix. Bulk reef supply Link to comment

frankdontsurf
Granular Activated Carbon and Granular Ferric Oxide, you'll want to have two parts carbon and one part ferric oxide. For example two cups of carbon for one cup of ferric oxide. Mixed well. Look up 'phosban reactors', 'rox reactors', 'carbon and gfo' filter.. The seachem matrix would be your bio filtration and the gac/gfo your chemical. Link to comment
Smithjm5
Alright I'll look into that! Thanks for explaining it better haha:) Link to comment
