HOB fuge enough for 7g?

Hey all. Just getting back into the hobby after a break for a few years. Gonna go small this time. The ultimate goal is natural, quiet filtration.

I plan on having a 7g that I'll stock with a shrimp, crabs, and one undecided fish. I'd like to keep a mixed reef under a par38 LED bulb I have (feeling confident). Nothing too crazy, just want to throw in a few frags and nurse them while they grow. I think a plate monti will be my most daring addition.

Skimmers are convenient and all, but if I can get away with a modded AquaClear 70 fuge instead, that would be the best. I was thinking of supplementing the filtration with a daily water change the equivalent of a Solo cup (or 2?).

I'd love to know your thoughts on this.

Thanks,

D

Should be just fine. Even just live rock, a powerhead, and weekly water changes would work as long as you don't over feed.

That is something I thought about when I was first thinking about setting the tank up, and I have seen it done. I decided to go for the fuge idea to give the tank some moral support, in the end!

Might be too much flow for 7g

I'm also a little concerned about that. I went with the smallest powerhead I could! If it turns out to be a hurricane in there, I'll take it out and adjust.

Thanks for the input, guys!

In my IM Nuvo 8 i had first put in the nano 240 and thought it was too much as sand was blowing around and took it out. After a week or tow of having it set up i tried it again, moved it around and i have to say its worth having, especially not having to worry too much about build up on the live rock or deep sand bed. I have lots of frags, they love the flow as do my two clowns.

As for using an ac70 as a fuge, i guess it depends on how you want to use it. On another set up i had an extra ac20 so i stuck it in, bought the InTank media basket, which is awesome & their 10w submersible light, grows chaeto very nicely so i say go for the ac70 and fet the InTank basket, on the 70 you can do much with their basket, see the YouTube video on their site!

I have a mp10 on my 10 gallon and its not too much, even at 75 percent so i couldn't see the hydor being too high of flow. But i like real high flow to keep detritus from settling, just my 0.02
