Paandemonium
what do you have for filtration? Link to comment
BadCrab
wysiwyg. A small chunk of cured liverock and 20%WC every-other day. There is also a small filter disc in the surface skimmer, but this is primarily particulate filtration. Link to comment
BRADYBUNCH7
where'd you get the tank can't find it on synergy Link to comment
BadCrab
where'd you get the tank can't find it on synergy I believe Dave from NanoBox is (or will be) selling these in combination with his lights. Link to comment
bdevillier19
awesome setup. what strings did you pull to get that tank? Link to comment
BadCrab
I was at Reefstock 2014, and so was Dave. We hung out a bit and he offered it to me - I couldn't refuse, it's a beautiful little tank. Link to comment
Illuiix
So how many tanks do you have now?? Haha, I'm surprised you have so much time on your hands to maintain these sexy tanks. You sure you don't want to add a platinum clown in this tank? Link to comment
BadCrab
I have a very attractive pair of ultra snowflakes in picOphyllia, so I wanted to go with the phantoms for this build. I only work part time at the LFS, growing corals and servicing tanks so I have a bit of spare time to spend on these 4 tanks. Today's 'more you know': carpet anemone stings suck. my hands and wrists are on fire. Link to comment
Illuiix
Ahh, yeah you just reminded me of those stings....never been stung by one...but I've heard back when I was working at the lfs. Good thing you don't have to touch it all the time. Link to comment
RollaJase
I remember seeing these on reef builders also, a really great little combo. The carpet new is an interesting choice, I look forward to seeing how it plays out. Link to comment
BeardedReeferLLC
Awesome setup you have there. Link to comment
BattleAthletics
Poor haddonis in that little tank. Why not another type of nem? Link to comment
PODPIMP
Unless you have more surface area for nitrifying bacteria to grow, you will see a nitrite and possibly ammonia spike every time that you feed. Frequent partial water changes will not stop this, and that little rock just won't cut it. Cool tank but I think you need to rethink this some more. Adding clownish to this reef is definitely not a good idea. Link to comment
metrokat
An elegance coral will be perfect. And you can get away with just the live rock for filtration. The carpet is gorgeous but probably a bit much in this little tank. Link to comment
otest82
That's going to be challenging. I hope it works for you. That is a beautiful anemone (I'm a little worried for it). Link to comment
BattleAthletics
I don't get it still these Nems get over two feet long and you still think it's a good idea? They need places to move hide etc etc get some smaller nems dude. I'm just glad you didn't put a gigantea in there lol. You should know this as you work for a lfs. Link to comment
Nigripes
This will never work unless you plumb it to a larger system, not a good advert for nano reef keeping I my humble opinion. Link to comment
BadCrab
The parameters will be monitored very carefully. If the system doesn't work, I'll gladly admit it - but I'm going to give it a real try. Here's the plan:* More liverock once the carpet settles. I want to keep at least 3g of water in the tank so displacement is a real concern * Add a 2nd EHEIM Skim350 for more flow and gas exchange * Open to nitrifying bacteria drip. Plumbing the system to a sump isn't really something im into. I don't hate the idea of lilly pipes or an x aqua in/out but but I'm worried the carpet could cover the overflow. Why a carpet nem? It was available at a very good price and will be a challenge to keep. I do have a backup plan. My propagation tank's sump is setup to handle a fully expanded haddons and I have cash offers from local reefers. If the health of the haddons declines it will be replaced by 1-2 'designer' btas. Haddon's carpets traditionally require a larger tank with a sandy bottom, metal halide lighting, and strong flow. Reef keeping as a hobby (and specifically nano reefing) pushes the boundaries of suitable habitats for marine animals. Think about all the species that were previously thought as unkeepable but advances in technology and husbandry practices have made success stories. Link to comment
tibbsy07
Did you buy this carpet nem or did you already have it? Link to comment
BadCrab
Came in from a wholesale shipment. He was gaping, but a few weeks of observation and feeding in an empty coral flat and he's looking healthy again. Link to comment
tibbsy07
What i mean is did you pay for him specifically for this tank? Link to comment
tibbsy07
Was it expensive? I only ask because if it was, and you want to keep it, move it to another tank. This thing is way too big for this tank to have any decent growth. It's going to stagnate and be boring, possibly kick the bucket. You are doing thing for an experiment to see if you can keep it, but you need a read out for an answer. The kind of readout one would use for something like this would be growth. You'll never get that read out in this tank. No growth room. Also no on the 2 clowns. I wouldn't even put 2 clowns in a 5.5g without the huge nem, but their swim room with this thing is going to be virtually nothing. Link to comment
