Evening all! New to the forum and wanted to post something I did out of bordem...

Stuff Outside:

Marina Cubus .9G

Aqueon Led light from evolve2

Stuff Inside:

1 pound of "pet rock" awesomeness

Tom Mini pump

Salty water

I will admit, I did it sorta to piss off the peeps in the house lol (this would be tank #4) but once I saw the results, well I'm liking this little thing and thinking of making it a sexy shrimp tank with some zoas, purple cloves maybe an anemone crab as well. Tak a look below, let me know what you think. Please keep in mind this pico may not stay here and is currently in a "trial" phase..

it's a toilet pico! Just make sure no one uses hairspray or aerosol deodorant or perfumes, around it. At least you'll always have a source of ammonia if you need it

hahaha heck yeah! seriously tho yeah that would be a major problem since the cleaners we all use in the bathroom are pretty toxic. its prob staying there for a few days til i find a suitable spot or take it down.

It looks good, i love my cubus.

Im actually worried about the light, wallwarts make heat, eletrical tape gets soft when heated, then it stretches, light loosens and plop, electric reef

Smallerbetter.. It's ductape and super sticky so I think for the time it will be up it'll be ok.

Duncan.. Yeah if I could leave it there I so would bc the bathtub has a frontal view of the thing so technically all 3 sides would will be looked at without much effort. But bc if the dynamic of the room being a bathroom.. It's prob bit a good idea.

On a more serious note.. Would that led be sufficient do you all think for some zoas

i think that light will probably handle zoas just fine :)

ive worked with the same platform and heres some things i would do to that tank to make it more reef friendly:

1. Paint the back with Kyrlon Fusion, gives it big tank feel on a tiny box, also paint the little rim the tank sits on ;)

2. Heating (i recomend a thermostatic one, the presets just heat no matter what so you have the same temp swing, just shifted into higher temps), i used flexwatt heat tape on the tanks base and a external thermostat but Cobalt makes a sexy 25W heater that would do the trick.

3. Bare-bottom? i personally hate that you can see the white trim on the base from a top down angle (how i like to view my sps) so either add a tiny layer of sand (i have like 1mm in mine) or, like im considering "Starboard", a sheet plastic that is non reflective and textured to look like sand.

3. Top off (this is a biggie), i use a hamster bottle type system velcroed to a shelf over my work desk, but in the past ive used fireplaces, walls, ect to secure the handy dandy rodent bottle device. while daily top offs might not seem like a pain, the swing that occurs between them will be for your corals.

Yeah no Barw bottom, I don't personally like the look of it too much, this was something I set up in like an hour just to see how it would look but now I like it! So we shall see how it develops. Then again I'm also thinking of getting some mangroves and make it a "planter" of sorts and just utilize the water part for like a shrimp or whatever.. Endless possibilities I say.

But thanks for your great info.. Def something to think about

I'd be worried about stuff getting in the tank.. perfume, toothpaste, that stuff you spray to cover your poop smell but then it just smells like flowery poop.. hair from shaving... seems like a lot of bad stuff potentially finding its way into the tank.. probably the worst room to put a tank in imo.. maybe cover it really well??

cool spot though, better than one of those plug in lights..

Link to comment

Yeah exactly .. Worst room but the most necessary one in a way.. lol it's not staying there at all.. Just sitting there out of convenience..prob taking it down tonite

Sweet DIY. I took that same light apart and put a piece of aluminum on it, through some LEDs and a moonlight driver....BAM! Got yo self a DIY led for cheap

Oh and my legs you'd fall asleep sitting in the bathroom staring at the tank!

Link to comment

@nanofreak... I wanted to take the light that came with the tank apart and put in some stronger LED's that way I could keep the "stock" look but that didn't work out well.

@reefer.. It's a dudes bathroom that why it's clean!!! lol
