D Z
If you like the little perching fish you could look into trimma gobies, eviota gobies or red head gobies. I will have to check those out, although I was kinda hoping for something other than a goby. I was just looking on LiveAquaria at species other than gobies that would work with my tank size. There are definitely other types of fish, but I just cannot seem to find a perfect fit. It seems like everything else would either be semi-aggressive, requires multiple feedings per day, or is a jumper. I do not really want to deal with aggression, I tend to feed on the lighter side, and am not willing to put a top on the tank..... As of right now, my 3 choices are a blue/green chromis, royal gramma, or a tail spot blenny.... Link to comment
Alex B
Royal gramma...stop thinking and do it. Such a dope fish. Link to comment
D Z
Royal gramma...stop thinking and do it. Such a dope fish. Might end up doing that....def would give a good touch of color. Keep some yellow since I would be taking out the YCG and add some purple...hmmmm Think this may be in store for the weekend. Hopefully, the Joe the Coral will be ok until then. No necrossis as of right now, just no PE. Do you know if royal grammas are usually something one of our LFS's usually stock? Also, do you know if any of the LFS's around us would be willing to give me credit for the YCG. If not, whatever....I got it for $15. I'll just give it to my brother-in-law. He is not going to keep SPS any time soon. Link to comment
D Z
Now I don't know what I want to do..... I read up a little bit more on Royal Grammas. Looks like some other people have had quite a problem with aggression. Also, I am not quite sure my tank is big enough for a Royal Gramma. There is a number of fish that I would love to keep that are known to be jumpers. Unfortunately, I just absolutely love the look of the tank without the top. Not to mention how much of a PITA it was to keep to top clean and looking good when I did have it on. I'm starting to gravitate more towards a goby again now, probably because I know it is the best all around choice. I know that with a goby I shouldn't have any aggression problems and should not worry about the fish jumping out. Might just go back to my original plan and get a prawn goby/pistol shrimp combo. Maybe a Yellow prawn goby.... The only thing I am worries about is LiveAquaria suggests that you feed yellow prawn gobies 2 times a day. Is that really necessary? I generally don't feed my fish but every 1 - 2 days. Link to comment
Mirya
I have a Yasha goby/pistol shrimp pair and feed them every other day. Link to comment
D Z
Well good news and bad.....I lost the Joe the Coral acro. It RTN'ed yesterday and was pretty bad off by this morning. I think it was a combination of things. I'm really contemplating just keeping it LPS and leaving the YCG. The good news is everything else is doing great! Here are some pics... D Z
Well I think I decided to just leave the YCG and keep this tank softies and LPS. I really like the little yellow guy and SPS may just be a little too demanding for right now. My wife is pregnant, so we will be having a new little baby that will be taking up a lot of my time in about 5 months, so starting to add SPS at this point would probably be a bad idea. Instead, I think I am going to start adding some other nicer pieces of LPS. Maybe some chalice, cyphastrea, favia, etc... Let me know what you think would look good. I'm going to be getting some more rics to fill out the left rock, but I still need to start filling out the right hand rock. Speaking of the right rock, my torch coral has been getting quite large lately. I decided to rearrange things a bit this weekend. I ended up turning and moving the right hand rock structure back a little bit. It just barely made enough room to remove the torch and place it down into the sandbed in front of the right hand rock structure. This will allow a better view of the majority of the right structure and hammer coral. Pics to come in the next couple days after everything gets used to the changes and opens up completely. ninjamyst
i like the idea of keeping the YCG and staying away from SPS for now. When I had the YCG in my Spec V, it killed a monti frag by perching on it all day. Love the ricordea rock too. Link to comment

When I had the YCG in my Spec V, it killed a monti frag by perching on it all day. Love the ricordea rock too. Thanks man. My YCG loves to perch on my shrums. It moves from ric to shrum back to ric all day. It was definitely nipping at the Joe the Coral acro I put in there almost immediately. OK....so new wish list. Inspiration for this comes from a number of tanks, mainly Scorched and Ninjamyst. 1) Leptastrea 2) Gonipora 3) Favia 4) Chalice 5) Try a blasto again, should be fine now that the emerald crab is gone. 6) More Acans 7) Cyphastrea 8) Pom Pom Crab Note to self, look into Fauna Marin LPS pellets. If I do get a Goniopora, then I should definitely add either Reef Roids or GoniPower to my feeding regimen. Link to comment

D Z
Love your macro shots, as always! Oh and to be 15 minutes from WWC. Dear god I would be in so much financial trouble! Thanks. As far as WWC, I'm not going to lie, they have some awesome corals. I have been there a couple times to pick up supplies and what not, but have never actually bought any coral from them. For what they have that is worth buying, their prices are not exactly ideal. I can get good quality coral for cheaper. But for some of the more rarer items that would usually be out of my price range, I will def be checking out their live sale. Link to comment

D Z
Those are some nice shots man. Keep it up! Thanks buddy. Unfortunately, though, I have some bad news. It looks like the majority of my zoas have zoa pox. I don't have any pictures yet, but after talking to Alex B last night, I'm pretty sure that is what it is. So far, none of the infected zoas are showing any signs of stress, but there are a good number of little white dots all over the stalks of the zoas. It looks like they are all pretty much infected. So I will be looking for some Furan 2 this weekend and starting the recommended treatment before they do start showing any signs. Hopefully, I won't loose any. Link to comment

D Z
Bummer. Hope the Furan works out for you. I hope so too. I don't have a lot of zoas, compared to others, and they are mostly small frags, but I would still hate to loose them. I really hope the "problems" with this tank start to slow down soon. I know it is normal to run into issues like this, especially in the first 6 months. Some of my problems I have to blame myself for, such as the emerald crab eating my blasto and YCG nipping at the acro, but its like there is just a never ending battle of problems with this tank. I have to say, though, it is quite the learning experience. I guess, in the end, when I am on my 3rd, 4th, or 5th tank years down the road, I will look back at this and realize it was better to learn all this now on the 1st tank. Link to comment
ninjamyst
been through zoa pox before too, along with GHA, bryopsis, zoa eating nudibranch, alk swing, monti eating nudibranch, cyano, and more. Not fun but may as well get them now then later.... Link to comment

Not fun but may as well get them now then later.... This is true.... Good luck man.. Thanks man, hopefully all will go well for the zoas. I was not able to find any furan 2 over the weekend. I was able to find it on Amazon Prime. I just placed the order so I should have it by tomorrow. I also ordered a small mag float and will be picking up some egg crate tonight to make a small DIY frag rack. In other news, I will be moving my tank later this week. I am going to be working on replacing my floors downstairs over the next couple of weeks. Therefore, I will be moving the tank up to my loft to get it away from all the work/dust. The WWC live sale that was on another forum that I will not mention was an absolute amazing event. I am so happy I got to be involved with it and I did get some amazing pieces. I am so excited to get these into my tank. Pick up, since I am lucky enough to be local to WWC, is not until Thursday, but since I am moving my tank later this week I will probably hold on until Sunday to go get them anyways. LOL, it will be a good excuse for me to go the the LFS on Father's Day! Anyways, here is a list of what I was able to snag. I picked up the awesome rainbow acan. D Z
So I went looking for Furan 2 over the weekend so I can start treating my zoas for pox, but did not find it a World Wide Corals. I didn't have any time to go elsewhere, so I ended up just ordering it on Amazon. I should be waiting for me when I get home. I went ahead and made a simple frag rack last night. This hsould make it really easy to pull each frag out each night to do the dips. It also lets me get the zoas right in the return stream. I heard that giving them a lot of flow is good to help rid them of the pox. Here is a couple quick shots of the pox. These were just taken really quick last night with my phone. I am going to try to get some better shots each night as I am dipping them. Oh and I am getting so excited to pick up my WWC stuff from the live sale......ohh the anticipation..... https://flic.kr/p/nDgRhs'>https://flic.kr/p/nDgRhs'>IMG_20140609_203012 by https://www.flickr.com/people//'>cchsoracle, on Flickr https://flic.kr/p/nVD1cf'>https://flic.kr/p/nVD1cf'>IMG_20140609_202956 by https://www.flickr.com/people//'>cchsoracle, on Flickr Link to comment
D Z
Since Dave released the max par readings for the NanoBox Mini series lights, I figured it would be fun to use his numbers to approximate the par I am getting in my tank. Based off of my settings on the light, here is what I got: https://flic.kr/p/nEtegM'>https://flic.kr/p/nEtegM'>Nuvo Par by https://www.flickr.com/people//'>cchsoracle, on Flickr In other news, the tank moves tonight. I will be relocating the tank up to my loft. I am actually pretty stoked to do this. I have not been too happy with it being in the foyer of the house as I just do not spend much time near the tank. I have been spending a lot of time upstairs lately, so it will be nice having it in the loft. It will also be nice that the upstairs is all finished with renovations, for the most part. Pics of the new location will come in the next couple days. Link to comment
