I think it would be close.  Canon and Nikon are fairly similar.  However, if you are already familiar with one, the learning curve is a little less.

Lol wow thanks! Now I have 100 choices. Safe to say most of them likely have all the settings I could want? That's what was cool about the p90 was once I figured it out there was enough adjustments that I didn't need to edit pics after words.

There are a few nice cameras in that list (some better than others).  I haven't gone through the specs on all of them, but most should be suitable.  The two that you compared seem like good choices.  I went to the used sites to see if there was something cheaper.  While there are some decent choices, I don't think you'd feel bad about either a new Nikon or Canon like you asked about.
