I went to one near my house and it seemed they are no longer carry them. trying to look for an 8. Nope in AK. But can't you just order it online from petco? I also know our area petcos had several. Also anybody have an idea how to get the votech cable mounting sticky tape off the side of the acrylic? Nervous about going at it with a razor blade. I changed my mind about my mounting location and now I have the big square left on one side of the tank. Thanks for the help. Link to comment

Try saturating it with alcohol. Soak a cotton ball and apply it to the spot. Rub off the top layer with your finger and repeat. Link to comment
dtitus1
The bulb has only been over the tank for about a week and I am letting everything acclimate before I lower it to the tank. I am no sure on how to change the optics. Is that something I can do on my own? It's easy you just unscrew the screws on the bottom, take out the lenses it comes with, and swap them out with ones you can get from anywhere I recommend 90 degree optics. Takes about 10 minutes. Smite!
MSully: The spots on the back wall, are they hard and look like shells? I had the same thing then tube worms started to grow throughout my tank. I believe that's what it was. I love it. For the aiptasia. A friend had the same problem in his nano12. Someone locally, Orange County CA, bred and sold berghia nudibranch worms. Apparently only food source is the pest form of anenome, aiptasia. From what the seller stated, peppermint shrimp don't always eat 100% of the aiptasia, "foot" and all. These worms do. When the food is gone you need to re home it or let it die off. He has a ad on CL to buy your infested LR to feed his colony. With a small infestation my buddy's tank was aipstia free in days. He has soft corals and LPS. None have been affected. Granted its only been two weeks since he introduced it. Everything I've read about them backed up the sellers statement. If your local pm me and I'll give his contact info. Love the tank, what light is that? Link to comment
Smite!
Update of my tank Currently battling a Cyanobacteria problem. Treating with chemiclean, hence the air stone. I believe it was caused by low flow and neglecting to clean the back chambers properly. I now use a baster to stir up the water under chamber one before I vacuum out #2. 24 hours in out of 48 hr treatment and no more cyano! . I also upgraded to the MJ900 pump. Noisy but I hope it breaks in. Really tight fit ended up modifying the mounting bracket to mount on the bottom of chamber 2. Plenty of flow. Anyone try a MJ600? If its smaller it might be the better bet IMO. . Other than that tank is doing great. Softies are growing like crazy, it seems I get about a polyp every 2 weeks on the Rastas and AOG. LPS are doing very well and even that sps has grown over the last few weeks! . I really think this is one of the best low cost tanks if you are willing to do some modifications yourself. Love the tank, what light is that?Hey I'm actually in Anchorage AK. I have only seen two very small aptasia and one is missing today. (yey!) so I'm going to wait and see. And besides I'm not local. The stuff on the back wall actually is soft and flows. I was able to just rub a bunch off and if it gets worse I will take a better picture. The light is a max spect razor r420r nano. It's a bit pricey but really nice, 6 programmable time/light periods and I think it just looks nice. Try saturating it with alcohol. Soak a cotton ball and apply it to the spot. Rub off the top layer with your finger and repeat.Good look, I will try that out. Thanks Link to comment
tetraodon
hey all, so i rescued a bubble tip anemone 3 weeks ago from a lfs and stuck it in my fuge, and i was worried it wasnt gonna make it, its mouth was hanging open and just looked sad, and im now pleasantly surprised that its gaining its color back and eating, i read somewhere that if an anemones mouth was gaping it was as good as dead, but i guess not. dtitus1
Cool so it looks like I'm gonna upgrade my 4 into an 8. I'm gonna swap out my ABI bulb for the extra par38 plus I was gonna put over my 40 breeder, then buy a regular full spectrum par38 for the 8 and swap it and put the plus where it's supposed to be. Gonna use the Hydro Pico pump I have in the display, and a modded stock pump for now, but does anyone know of just one pump that will work good as a replacement main pump in chamber 2? Still not sure if I am gonna go through with this, have the 8 already but I'm gonna play around with it tomorrow before I come to a decision. Link to comment
dtitus1
No body knows an upgrade for the pump? I guess a bigger hydor pico pump will work, I had to do some jimmying to get the connector to fit the last time so I'm wondering if a bigger one will have that problem. Link to comment
dtitus1
Scratch that looks like the only bigger hydor pico is 300gph not much of an improvement over the 260. Looks like this might actually be the deciding factor on whether or not I keep this tank cause I'm on the fence about using the 8. Have it set up right now waiting for the sand to clear. tetraodon
why are you on the fence? Link to comment
dtitus1
Just not sure if I like it yet and finding a pump that will work is kind of a big deal. Think I saw somewhere that rio 800's will work but I'm sure I would have to jimmy the connector again. Link to comment
tetraodon
ah ok, i just use the stock pump with no issues, you looking for more flow? Link to comment
dtitus1
yeah i don't think the fully modded stock pump was even enough for the 4 so I upped it to hydor pico 260. I'm wondering if now maybe the hydor 260 and maybe a hydor 160 in the display would be enough or if theres a pump that would fit in back and give me more flow. Not sure yet. Link to comment
tetraodon
have you looked at the marineland maxijet Link to comment
dtitus1
yeah I have one I use to mix salt, it wouldnt fit in though. Not sure what size would fit. Link to comment
tetraodon
hhmm only thing i can think of it shortening the tube that goes from the pump to outlet, Link to comment
dtitus1
not sure what I'm gonna do now I think maybe my combination of the hydor pico pumps may be the best idea so far. Should give me about 400 gph and I don't really mind having the one pump in the display too much. Link to comment
tetraodon
as long as i gets the job done i dont care what it looks like Link to comment
dtitus1
I'm with you, but I think a koralia 240 would look kind of big so I don't know if I wanna go that route. That would be the obvious choice. Link to comment
tetraodon
yea well youll have great flow Link to comment
Smite!
I ran the 240 in my 8 for a bit. Was over kill in my opinion. It caused a good section of the tank to be shaded as well. I'm running the MJ900. The flows on the strong side and it was a really tight fit, I also had to jimmy rig the fittings. Id pull out a MJ600 and compare the size to the 900 in a store. If its smaller I'd go that route. I think it would still be plenty of flow. More than likely would still have to rig the fittings. I used the stock pumps tubing and heated the end with a lighter to expand and soften it. After a few tries I was able to twist it over the mj900 output. May be on there for good now though, ha!
