I finally got some solid work done on my stand!

Here's my stand build post

Components so far:
- IM Nuvo 38 with upgraded pump, used

- Maxspect Razor 20.5"

- Two rotating deflectors

- Custom tank stand

- Jager 200W heater

- Tunze Nano Protein Skimmer

- Tunze Osmolator ATO 3155

- MP10

Pending purchases:

- Live Rock, sand, etc

- possibly a media reactor

- possibly a controller

ROCK: I was thinking about 20 lbs BRS Reef Saver and 10 lbs from my LFS. Any thoughts/advice??

SAND: I really like the oolite sand but I'm afraid of my MP10 causing sandstorms. Is Fiji pink good enough?

UPDATE 3/14/2014

I've been MIA for a few months, almost losing hope in the tank.

Problem #1: I'm kinda colorblind. Water testing was a beotch for me....especially Calcium. In fact just today I tried the API test kit and FINALLY knew what my calcium was.

Problem #2: I had a temp spike this past fall that shocked a bunch of my coral and they got RTN.

Probelm #3: went on vacation and used an auto-feeder. I came back to a brown fresh-water-looking tank. It had dumped wwwaayyy too much food and I had a big crash thereafter.

I'm finally stabilizing my tank. So much I still need to learn :tears:

That stand is amazing man. I like how the razr looks over these tanks but I think I would hang it instead of have it on the legs. Looks pretty good so far.

I'm thinking about it, too.....For now I figure I'll stick with the legs and once everything is looking settled in, I'll hang it.....

I personally like having total access to my tank so hanging the light would be my only option. It looks good on the legs but I love the clean look of the light being hung. That is why I love my kessil with the gooseneck so much, small footprint over the tank and clean look.

MP10 hit the water this AM - no storms whatsoever at the highest setting. I'm actually a little disappointmented in my MP10's perceived lack of power - I thought it'd be a lot more forceful. But, what do I know?! I'm just a noob. ;)

Slight rearrangement this morning. What do you guys think??

Not bad. These tanks are not the easiest to aquascape. I probably changed mine up 3 or 4 times until I found something I liked.

IMO..... what looks like sh!# is your profile pic

What sand did u go with? And is the mp10 causing a storm?

Forgot to answer the sand question - 20lbs of Fiji Pink. I'm happy with it overall!

Hi Mazeinblue,

I am a fellow Michigan resident (Oakland County). Your set-up is very nice. I was very involved in the hobby about 12 years ago and thinking about getting back into the hobby. The set-up I was thinking about doing is very similar to yours. But for the lighting I was thinking about use the 160 watt razor. After having the 120 watt over your Nuvo 38, do you think that the 160 watt would be to much for the Nuvo 38?

Hey Rob,

Sorry, I've been MIA for a few months and never saw your post. I'm sure you've already moved past the buying phase but for what it's worth I think the 120W is plenty. If anything, I wish I would have gotten the white background instead of the black just so there's slightly more reflection around the tank. But, really it's not an issue overall. Best of luck with the tank!
