codydemmel4 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 Hello, I am new to all of this. I do not have a saltwater tank yet and I know you have to wait a couple months before adding any corals, but I am just researching in advance. I want to get the biocube 29 or the biocube 29 hqi. I am wondering if either of these stock lights can support a anemone. If they cant, what lights do I need to upgrade to and around how much would that cost. I am not worried about the temperature of the HQI because I can just get a chiller. Thank you! Like could I support a bubble tip anemone? if not, what would I need?
ward827 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 2 cents . . . I have a rock flower anemone in my BC14 with stock lighting and he's doing very well and growing. So I'd imagine you could keep those in a BC 29. They come in a ton of cool colors and are very hardy. As for other nems, I'm not sure. My tanks been up almost a year. Definitely need a more established tank to keep them. IMO. W-

ward827 Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 thank you very much. I appreciate your insight! Check out aquascapers.com. They usually have a great selection of rock flower nems. As well as zo's, rics, and a few others. Good prices. I've purchased from them twice and they are great! W-
codydemmel4 Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 thanks for the help, do you think I would be able to support a bubble tip though?
ProReefer Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 You can certainly keep the BTA in the 29 in both the hqi and the pc. I kept mine in with the pc for a while and it was always healthy... Ate like a pig However I have since then upgraded to Steves Leds Mod so I could grow sps and not have to worry about extra cost such as a chiller and purchasing new bulbs every 7-9 months.
Deepseamatt Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 I would recommend have a setup that doesn't need a chiller. I bought one for day one with my RSM. They are expensive and mine broke down within 6 months. I got a replacement eventually but now I'm just wondering when it's going to break again. I made the mistake of getting a GBTA when my tank was to young. 2 months It didn't survive. I have a RBTA now but my tank is more mature almost a year old. I have stock T5 lighting and I place the RBTA at the bottom of the tank on a piece of LR and it's stayed there and is doing great. If you do get a bubble tip I would recommend the RBTA they look awesome but they do need a mature tank to thrive or survive.
