tylercoville
I have a 15g cube that I setup in aug it has an ai nano over it. I currently don't have much corals because right after setting up the tank I ended up moving (LA to SF in the end of sept) and haven't had time to find a good shop yet. Anyway my concern is my corals don't seem to be growing much. All my parameters have been very stable and none of them look discolored but at the same time it's been 2+ months and other then one of the zoa colonies I haven't seen much growth. I think this may be because my lighting is setup to low. I had it setup at 20% white/30% blue/34% royal blue. I moved this up a little today to see how it does. Should I just slowly increase the lighting until I start to see more growth? Corals Small stalk of purple tip frogspawn- the stock is 1.5 tall and the head full is about 1/3 of a golf ball in size and is placed in the sand bed on a plug. The tank is 15 inches deep. Utter chaos zoas- this started at 2p and is now 3p although the p are getting larger. this is ~8 inch dep. Blue hornets- this was 4p and is the only one really growing it is at probably about 11-12p now and is about to grow off it's frag. This is at the same depth as the utter chaos. The last is a larger frag of eagle eyes I don't know how much growth this has had because it is a lr frag with probably 40p on it. It is down near the bottom near the frogspawn and has been having algae growth problems. Is my best bet to slowly increase the lighting? Could there be other things affecting their growth? I have only been testing the basic params in the API saltwater kit. What signs should I look for that the lighting is getting too high? I can get some pics if that will help as well. Nano sapiens
Coral growth is affected by many different things. Assuming your parameters are reef tank acceptable (you should post your parameters), you can influence a coral's growth by decreasing or increasing the light intensity (up to a point, each coral type has its own threshold levels), light spectrum, duration of daily light cycle, dissolved organics in the water and external food input. I am not familiar with the AI Nano, so hopefully someone can chime in here who is. Link to comment
jlbzixxer
i know that my utter chaos was a slow grower when i got +5p it started to grow a lot faster how high is your light from your water surface aquatic central has some nice coral once in awhile depending what you like. Link to comment
