What happened there? Did you get it like that or what's the story? There's always a good story behind guys like this? Did you try and frag your starfish?

What happen to its other arms?

Maybe I should make everyone guess. But think of it this way, the other arms walked off.

Okay... My real guess is that enough of a leg pulled off to regrow another baby-body.

Now tell us what happend!

Im with pat. Enough leg fell off to start growing another body.

Only one arm ate the spinach on that popeye.

This is my favorite answer. Not just cause Popeye was one of my childhood faves.

So I have this purple linkia starfish. About a 1-2 months ago it had a missing a arm and I mean it looked sliced off. The missing arm was clean cut right off. I thought that maybe the tiger pistol nabbed it. But never confirmed. A week later I found the arm just hanging out on the glass where it sat for week. Did a water change and even stuck my head in the tank and did the "smell" check. No stank. So I let it be.

So it just crawled around for about a month, taking rides on snails and hermits. It was funny to see it when it hitched a ride on my tuxedo urchin. As if a mutated hulk arm grew from the urchin.

Then it went missing again for a week.

Found it the other day with 5 baby brand new arms. Since I missed my chance to photo an urchin with a huge purple arm, the "Popeye" arm was the next best thing. Even got some crazy looks from the guys at the LFS.

Hope you guys had a good time with this itty bitty starfish.

That definitely gave me a good laugh and it's actually really cool. You should document the progress of the growth with pictures every month or so. It would be neat to see a timeline of photo's of how it grew. B)

When the arm got cut off, there must have been a tiny portion or the oral disc that was still attached to the arm. That would be the only way it could ever regenerate a practically new body, plus all of its other arms, since when an arm gets separated completely from the body, it certainly does not grow back a new body lol. Pretty incredible IMO.
