Sorry about your tank. Such a bummer but glad it's slowly on the return.

 

I remember when I first started this hobby I was in my LFS, which is a good one,

and I asked about cleaning/vacuuming the sand bed. They said they don't touch it.

So from that point on I decided to do the same. Guess my snails do enough stirring.

I have 3 hermit crabs and 1 narcissus snail... but he doesn't seem to stray to far away from on spot in the middle of the tank... I'm thinking about adding some more pebble-ish substrate to the sand bed... allow for more air flow perhaps (vs pure sand)... thoughts?

Not sure about that. Could trap more detritus, too. IMO.

Maybe beef up your CUC. I keep mine fairly heavy.

And when they die off I just replace from reefcleaners.org.

Pretty cheap for a small CUC. And John always throws in extras! :)
